Diablo 4: How to solve Ritual Brazier puzzles in Vessel of Hatred
The Ritual Brazier puzzles in Vessel of Hatred are among the most deceptively hard riddles in Diablo 4. While “puzzles” aren’t a defining aspect of this or any other Diablo title that came before, every once in a while, the game sprinkles in some brain teasers to keep the dungeon-crawling experience fresh. With the Vessel of Hatred, a new type of puzzle has been added to the game that you can encounter randomly or during a quest, and without knowing what you are doing, it won’t be fun at all.
In this guide, we have shared the optimal solution that you can use to solve the majority of Ritual Brazier puzzles in Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred.
What are the optimal solutions for the Ritual Brazier puzzles in Vessel of Hatred in Diablo 4?
You will find the Ritual Brazier puzzles mainly in two instances. The easiest and potentially the first one you will find is during the “All Good Things” quest. This version of the puzzle has only four braziers arranged in a square pattern. Each brazier you interact with will toggle itself and the two adjacent ones (north, south, east, or west) between lit and unlit states. The goal is to light up all the braziers.
Consider the brazier close to the door you came in from as the south one, then follow this pattern:
- West
- South
- West
- North
- East
- West
By following this order, all four braziers should light up successfully. If you've interacted with the braziers out of order, you can reset the puzzle by quitting to the main menu and reloading the game. This will reset the puzzle to its default state. Enemies spawn each time you interact with a brazier. These are easily killed but can be quite annoying to deal with.

Cellar Ritual Brazier puzzle solution (random cellar encounter)
The Ritual Brazier puzzle can also appear randomly in cellars across the Sanctuary. In this version, you may encounter a grid of braziers with more complex configurations. The objective is still the same — interact with the braziers in a way that all of them are lit at the same time, to unlock chests that sometimes even contain legendary items.
How the braziers work:
- Corner braziers: Affects itself and the two closest adjacent braziers.
- Edge braziers: Affects itself, the central brazier, and the two closest corner braziers.
- Central brazier: Affects itself and all four edge braziers.
If a brazier is lit, interacting with it will turn it off, and vice versa.

Optimal Solution (starting with only the central brazier lit)
For every Ritual Brazier puzzle you find, your strategy should be to turn off all the lit ones except the central brazier. Once it’s done, follow this sequence:
- Bottom Left
- Top Right
- Top Left
- Bottom Right
- Left
- Right
- Top
- Bottom
By following these steps, you should successfully solve the puzzle and unlock the chest. Remember that cellar puzzles are randomized, so you may not encounter the Ritual Brazier puzzle every time. However, once you leave and re-enter a cellar, it resets, potentially giving you a new puzzle.
