Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes mode shows no signs of being fixed, spoiling the fun for a small group of players
Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes mode is so much fun - that is unless you’re a couch co-op player. Although such players are a minority, they are a part of the community, and many feel that they’re being poorly served by Blizzard developers. It’s frustrating enough that couch co-op players can’t take part in the new raid, but regular, daily content being bugged in this manner has to be the last straw.
Infernal Hordes are a great way to gear up, not to mention an important part of the Seasonal Challenges that Diablo 4 players get to tackle. However, couch co-op players have been out of luck since the beginning of Season 5, and there’s still no word of a change.
Diablo 4 couch co-op players cannot complete Infernal Hordes mode
Diablo 4 couch co-op players are frustrated with the Infernal Hordes mode since they are getting soft-locked before completing the trial and gaining their rewards. Many players aren't even making it to the final boss of the mode before waves stop spawning completely. Moreover, these issues occur at random, dialing up the frustration significantly.
While originally highlighted on Reddit by MaidenlessRube, this has been occurring since Season 5. Despite the numerous updates and fixes that the game has received since then, couch co-op players still cannot play Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4 reliably. We’re hip-deep in Season 6 at this point, and there’s no word from the Blizzard devs on a fix being worked on for couch co-op players.
The only “workaround” for this isn’t really a fix, either. Some Redditors have suggested using Party Finder or grouping with a friend who isn’t on the same console as you. However, that completely defeats the purpose of playing couch co-op in the first place, and this issue has completely driven players away from the game.
Being completely locked out of not one, but two modes, simply because you prefer to play couch co-op with a friend or loved one is frustrating this section of the player base. On top of it, the main problem with this particular issue in Diablo 4 is that it happens at random without any prior notice.
Waves of enemies will just stop spawning, sometime between the start and just before the final bosses of the mode. At that point, the game softlocks, and you have no way to progress or do anything.
While it’s unlikely, some fans hope that the next Campfire Chat will bring this up, and address it as a known issue. Otherwise, couch co-op fans are just going to have to skip Infernal Hordes completely.
