Final Fantasy 14’s 7.1 update — titled Crossroads — has already been released into the wild and brings with it a wealth of interesting new in-game content. From challenging new content and main story quests to balance updates, there’s lots to love about update 7.1. There are major story quests, small quality-of-life changes, side quests, and even the introduction of the new Allied Society Quests, so if you’re looking to hop back into FF14, there’s never been a better time to do so.
It also teases some content that is to come in future updates, such as the next Ultimate Trial, Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic), and even further Hildibrand Adventures. Much of that content won’t be until later, but there’s plenty to be excited about in Final Fantasy 14’s Crossroads update! Here’s what you have to look forward to when you log in.
What’s new in Final Fantasy 14’s Crossroads update (7.1)?
Final Fantasy 14’s Crossroads update offers players quite a bit of change across the board. In terms of Playable Content, players can look forward to seven new Main Story Quests, which begin in Tuliyollal, for level 100 players. Just head to (10.0, 15.0), and speak to Bol Wuruq to begin — remember, you must have completed the Dawntrail Main Scenario Quest first.
Another very exciting feature of Final Fantasy 14’s Crossroads update is the Echoes of Vana’diel quest line. This unlocks the Echoes of Vana’diel raid, with Jeuno: The First Walk being the first step of this. It begins in Tuliyollal as well (13.0, 11.6) by speaking to the Hoobigo Messenger.
There are four quests/branches to this, so get ready for a brand-new challenge, and a trip back in time for Final Fantasy 11 players. There’s also the Pandæmonium: Epilogue quest to tackle, which requires you to complete the Chronicles of a New Era quest “Guided by the Past”.
Those who want to take part in Allied Society Quests, which are a fun and new feature, can head to Tuliyollal and speak to the Blue-garbed Pelu at (13.6, 12.9) to begin. Dock Poga was given an Aetheryte to arrive at this location nice and easy. These new quests are composed of main quests, involving these groups of people as well as daily quests. After you finish the first main quest for an Allied Society, you can do three daily quests a day.
Like previous expansions, this increases your reputation with the group of people and can unlock more quests, and rewards. You can unlock Allied Society Quests for the Pelupelu at level 90 for any Disciple of War/Magic class by heading to Tuliyollal (13.6, 12.9) and speaking to the Blue-garbed Pelu. This hinges on you completing Dawntrail as well. This marks a major change for the Allied Quests, which will make its appearance here in Final Fantasy 14 Crossroads.
There are some minor, quality-of-life adjustments as well. Friends won’t be hidden by default when you hide nearby players, and this feature has been adjusted as well to make life easier. If you complete a quest before selecting a reward, a reward selection window will now also pop up.
Another fun change in Final Fantasy 14 Crossroads was for Housing. The interior design of an estate can now be changed. However, when you do, your furnishings will be placed in the storeroom, so please keep this in mind before you do it. Another great update is that minions that drop from the final chest of these three dungeons have had the odds of it appearing increased:
- Ktisis Hyperboreia
- The Aitascope
- The Dead Ends
There are tons of new items, a few new Triple Triad cards, and Duty Support received some more duties to go through: Halatali, and Yuweyawata Field Station.
There were even adjustments made to the Wondrous Tails system, adding more content as well as having prizes adjusted. For those who love Unreal Trials, the current one was changed to The Jade Stoa. Additionally, a new trial was added: The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden.
There was also a mountain of PVP Balance changes made, which you can find the details of in the official patch notes. The final biggest change that comes in Final Fantasy 14 Crossroads is to the Hall of Novices.
This mode got an overhaul, which will teach players important, modern mechanics. Going through exercises 1 through 3, players receive a ring that increases their exp gain for Disciples of War and Magic, until level 60.
From amazing new cosmetic items to major adjustments in PVP, Final Fantasy 14 Crossroads is a pretty serious update to the game as a whole. There’s so much more to come as the weeks and months go on as well.
