Towers of Aghasba: How to feed animals?
Feeding animals is a central mechanic in Towers of Aghasba, and ties directly into its biome-growing system. While it's conceptually very straightforward, the game does not explicitly show you how to put the food on the ground — at least in the Early Access version. This makes an otherwise simple system somewhat confusing for beginners.
In this guide, we'll tell you everything you need to know about feeding animals in Towers of Aghasba.
How to feed animals in Towers of Aghasba
To feed an animal in Towers of Aghasba, you must first determine what kind of diet the creature in question has. Generally, the herbivores like one of the native produces of their home biome, whereas predators like Roughjaw will prefer fish meat or animal meat.
The surefire way to tell what kind of food you need is to check the animal through the Shimuscope. If you haven't unlocked it for the Shimudex yet, you must observe it from a close enough spot, and then use the Shimescope again.
After it's clear what kind of food you need, acquire it, go to your inventory, and then equip the food (default PC keybind is V). Left-click consumes the food to give your character the healing properties, whereas right-click will aim the food, which lets you throw it on the ground.
After you throw the food, a heart icon will let you know whether it has attracted the creature. Most animals in Towers of Aghasba have strong olfactory senses, so they'll latch on to it from a generous range.
If no heart icon appeared on the food, you should pick it up and try again. It either means the desired creature is too far away, or that the item you have on hand cannot be fed to it.
Note that the spiders (Withered) cannot be fed, as they're not part of the ecological growth process.
What if I don't have the Shimuscope?
It's possible to run into very early-game situation where you need to feed a creature but haven't unlocked the Shimuscope yet. Thankfully, the creatures up till this point eat one of two food types. In the temperate biome of the Amani Island, all the herbivores eat either Berries, which can be obtained from Berry Mounds on the ground, or Roots, which can be farmed from Bushes and Spindleroots.
What do you get from feeding animals in Towers of Aghasba?
Feeding animals in an ecosystem is a requirement for every growth stage of a biome's King Tree. Other than this, feeding them is a great source of Dung, and has a chance to also give you additional resources from a creature's drop pool (excluding hide and meat). Thirdly, this is also a relatively easy way to get a lot of Amity.
