How to link your Path of Exile 2 key to steam
Now that Path of Exile 2 has hit Early Access, you may want to play directly on Steam. Unfortunately, this seems to be something that has confused players, unless they have purchased their access on Valve's storefront directly. Thankfully, doing this isn’t too hard - it’s just not direct. Still, some players might run into unfortunate circumstances and will have to be patient, instead of immediately jumping on Steam.
Thankfully, players won’t lose any progress when swapping from the external client to the Steam client version of Path of Exile 2, once they get their key. If you already preloaded the external version, you still have access to that. However, if you want to link your Path of Exile 2 account to Steam, here’s what you need to do.
How to connect Path of Exile 2 to Steam
As long as you have a key, you can connect Path of Exile 2 to Steam. Unfortunately, the game is still not free to play just yet. You have to purchase one of the Supporter Packs - or have someone buy it for you—we won’t judge you. The cheapest one is $30, so if you’ve already done that, you’re likely ready to start playing on Steam.
You need to head to your account on the Path of Exile website, and then head to the My Account tab, followed by Early Access. You can also get there via this link. You’ll find this under the Manage Account section. Clicking on that link should take you directly to where you need to go. If you see a key there, simply head to Steam and redeem it:
- Click “ADD A GAME” in the Bottom left
- Click “Activate a Product on Steam”
- Click “NEXT”
- Click “I agree”
- Follow the rest of the instructions, and download the game on Steam.
If you play Path of Exile 2 but don’t have an account on the website, you’ll need to use the “sign in using Steam” option instead. Players who do it that way should also have an option to link their key to Steam.
However, there might be some players, who won’t be able to complete this process as described above. Some, who have purchased the game, have reported that they don’t have a key to link PoE 2 to Steam right now.
This is likely due to Grinding Gear Games simply not ordering enough keys from Valve and being forced to wait. The developers likely underestimated how popular the game was going to be.
