How to tame Armadoggo in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction
ARK Survival Ascended Extinction features more than just huge dinosaurs. There are also adorable pets like the Armadoggo. It made its way onto the Extinction servers, and players can tame them there, if they want a great companion to follow them around. Thankfully, they’re not incredibly rare, nor is it difficult to get one to join your army of animals.
Unlike Dreadnoughtus, you don’t have to fight off waves of powerful enemies in order to claim Armadoggo in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction. Instead, you just have to be a good friend and bring the right food to the proverbial table.
How to find an Armadoggo in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction
The Armadoggo is an easy find in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction. They’re most often found in the Sanctuary — either inside, or just outside of it. Just cruise around until you see an Armadoggo that you’d like to add to your collection of pets. They come in a variety of colors, so you may want to look around until you find one that is a level and/or color you want.
You should already have its favorite foods on hand, if you’re going to tame it, so make sure you do that before going looking for these cute Armadoggos in ARK. Below is the complete guide to taming these cute friends.
ARK Survival Ascended Extinction Armadoggo taming guide
Once you’ve found an Armadoggo in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction, you need to tame it! Depending on the creature's level, you may need multiple bits of food. If it’s a level 1 though, all you need is one of the following — or three, if you’re using Raw Meat:
- Regular Kibble x1
- Raw Prime Meat x1
- Raw Mutton x1
- Raw Meat x3
Using your hotbar, set the food on the ground near the Armadoggo, and they’ll enter a kind of sniff mode. They’ll walk over to it, and after a bit of time, the animal will allow you to pet it. Wait for this, press the appropriate key (E), and then they will eat the food. That’s all there is to catching an Armadoggo.
All Armadoggo abilities and controls
When you tame an Armadoggo in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction, you’ll automatically receive a Dog Whistle item when you activate Companion Mode. You can do a variety of things with it, such as set the Armadoggo’s Wandering Behaviour:
- Follow Player [Heel Distance]: Armadoggo will follow the player as if under the normal whistling command.
- Set Wander [Close Distance]: It will wander close to the player without being under a normal whistling command.
- Set Wander [Medium Distance]: The creature will wander close the player without being under a normal whistling command, but at a farther distance.
It also has several emotes that you can perform on it, to make it act as you’d like, including Sit - makes the Armadoggo sit until you command otherwise.
- Fetch!
- Play Dead!
- Who’s There?
- Here Pup!
- Free Me!
- Activate Gear
You can also equip the Armadoggo with armor in ARK Survival Ascended Extinction, which can allow gear packs to be added, for a few extra benefits and bonuses. Some of these are incredibly valuable, and others are just minorly useful:
- Ammo Box: Can store ammo for pretty much any ranged weapon, and will automatically reload into your weapon (sorry, doesn’t work on turrets).
- Bait Trap: Using this, your pet can distract hostile Creatures.
- Battle Spikes: Your dog will deal more damage on offense and defense.
- Camping Gear: Player will receive hypothermic insulation and Armadoggo will carry preset sleeping bag, which is passively active.
- Chibi Carrier: Equip this, and the pet will carry an extra Chibi-pet for you.
- Extra Armor: Armadoggo receives more armor.
- Medpack: Your pet can heal you when injured.
- Oxygen Tank: Using this will let you breathe under water for a limited time.
- Picnic Set: This will give you hypertherimic insulation, and your pet can carry food and drink for you.
- Rucksack: Armadoggo can keep inventory even if disabled/killed.
- Speed Booster: Grants a 10 second speed boost to the companion player when activated from the “Companion Whistle Commands” window. Has a 1:45 timer. Cooldown continues even if gear is removed.
- Spykit: Your pet will provide you with basic information about things you focus on.
