Luma Island: How to get materials and upgrade tools
How to get materials for upgrading
Firstly, to upgrade your tools, materials are required. You will receive some basic materials after completing the tutorial and a type of spirit, depending on what tool you have. Along with this, you will also get some Tool Tokens.
Tool Tokens are essential for upgrading any tool. You need a specific number of Tokens for every upgrade. These can be found in Treasure Chests and by breaking down old barrels, vases, and crates. The Ancient Farm Temple located near the town is a good place to obtain Tool Tokens.
You can only upgrade five of the seven tools in Luma Island, namely:
- Axe
- Pickaxe
- Fishing Rod
- Whip
- Hoe
You require Gold, Tool Tokens, Spirits, and Copper Bars as upgrade materials. However, for the Whip, you will need Farm Leather instead of Copper Bars.

How to upgrade your tools
You can only upgrade your tools by going to Sylvia's Anvil located in the town, close to the entrance of your farm. Go to the 'Upgrade tool' window and click the arrow symbols next to the tools to upgrade them.
Each upgrade boosts specific traits that each tool has. For example, upgrading your Axe and Pickaxe increases the damage you do to harvestable items. Also, each upgrade increases the likelihood of getting rarer drops. Similarly, when you upgrade the Whip, the damage dealt to enemies is higher and the chances of getting Monster Materials increase.
