New World Aeternum: How do server merges work?
New World Aeternum’s developers announced recently that a series of server merges are coming to the game. Servers in specific regions will come together to create more bustling, full servers. While the game has seen new life breathed into it with this update, it is possible that some servers are simply not seeing the number of players they need to feel fun and competitive. Whatever the reason is behind the scenes, these changes are coming.
The rebranding to New World Aeternum brought with it lots of content and changes to the game, but the server merges will now bring more and more players together. We can only hope it’s a net positive for the MMO, but here’s what you need to be aware of going forward.
What to know about New World Aeternum’s server merges
Between November 25 and December 5, 2024, the New World Aeternum server merge will begin. Only 12 servers will be impacted; interestingly enough, they're all crossplay servers. Find a list of the servers that will be impacted below. The left side is the server that is being closed down, and on the right is the previous servers’ new home.
- Artorius (SA East) -> Devaloka (SA East)
- Isabella (US West) -> El Dorado (US West)
- Lilith (US East) -> Maramma (US East)
- Centaurus (EU) -> Asterion (EU)
- Kronos (EU) -> Aaru (EU)
- Sutekh (AP Southeast) -> Delos (AP Southeast)
On November 25, 2025, those servers that are closing will cease accepting new character creation. So, if you wanted to make a character to try out a specific Archetype, now’s the time to do it. Those servers will also have a server restart, albeit a brief one. All wars will be canceled and refunded on the closing servers.
The next step of the New World Aeternum server merge takes place between November 25, 2024, and December 5, 2024. Players on worlds that are closing down will have the opportunity to transfer themselves to another world of their choice — within the same region. Console players will have access to Server Transfer Tokens that are available for purchase at this point as well.
These will only let you transfer from one crossplay world to another crossplay world, though. We also don’t know what the cost will be at this time. It doesn't seem that console players will have a free transfer, unfortunately.
When December 5, 2024 rolls around, access to the closing worlds ends, and all characters and companies on these worlds will be moved to new home worlds. All territories on these worlds will be refunded to the owning companies.
In addition, the reimbursement process will begin for transfer tokens used within the last 14 days between the merging worlds. This server merge for New World Aeternum will be starting soon, so players don’t have a lot of time to make any final decisions.
