New World Aeternum features a vast and detailed world filled with various wildlife that you can track down and skin to receive various resources. Some basics about hunting in New World Aeternum are:

Learning the Trade Skill:

  • To start, open your Character Menu and navigate to the Trade Skill tab. Select Tracking & Skinning to view your skill progress and see which animals are currently trackable based on your level.

Skinning prey:

  • Once an animal is killed, you can skin it. Approach it and press E (PC), Triangle (PS5), or X (Xbox) to begin the skinning process. Completing this will yield meat, skin/leather, and other animal parts.

Animal tiers:

  • Start with smaller animals like rabbits, turkeys, and boars. You’ll progressively unlock higher-level animals to hunt, such as wolves, bears, and lynxes, by leveling up the Tracking & Skinning skill. These new prey options will become visible on both the map and the compass.

Best Hunting regions by level

Levels 0-49

Location: Start at Monarch’s Bluff, hunting Boars and Turkeys. Move to Windsward, especially near Greyfang Grotto and Amrite Temple, where Wolves and Lynxes are plentiful.

Tip: Hunt rabbits and hares for quick experience boosts using a ranged weapon.

Levels 50-99

Location: Head west of Windsward near North Watch Tower for abundant buffaloes. Bears and lynxes still yield good XP but begin focusing on buffaloes for faster progress.

Tip: Look out for 31-45 Prey Tier animals as you approach level 99.

Levels 100-149

Location: Brightwood is ideal for Wolves, while Weaver’s Fen (with Moose, Bears, and Crocodiles) offers strong gains once you reach level 150.

Tip: Avoid PvP in Weaver’s Fen, as it’s a hotspot for faction farming.

Levels 150-180

Location: Mourningdale has level 60-65 prey and predators that help reach higher Skinning levels quickly.

Tip: Use the Hatchet/Musket combo for maximum damage. Aim for headshots to reduce kill time.

Levels 180-205

Location: For end-game skinning, hunt high-level predators (level 65-70) that yield valuable Tier 5 hides for extra Coins. Focus on powerful weapons and strategies for the challenging hunts.

Tip: The Musket and Bow are useful for maintaining distance and dealing high damage, especially against the fierce Tier 5 beasts.
