One of Warframe 1999's biggest features is not coming till 2025

Warframe 1999 is coming this December as expected, but one big attraction is being left out of the release. In what is possibly the final DevStream before the update's release, Digital Extremes announced yesterday that Technocyte Coda, the system for Infested Liches, has now been delayed to 2025. The substantial size of this update requires a lot of bug-fixing overhead, which means Liches won't be ready by the time the title launches.

As Creative Director Rebecca Ford explained in Devstream 183:

"The Infested Tecnocyte Coda system is a lot of work from all our teams... and the rest of the update would just not be to our standards if we released it all at once. We don't want to release it buggy, and we don't want to release it rushed. Then, it's also the cleanest thing to decouple for a second heat of 1999, because it's not really tied to the quest, it's not tied to the Syndicate... it is its own system."

Alongside Infested Liches, Warframe's Coda weapons are also now delayed to 2025

Technocyte Coda is the final part of the puzzle to complete the Lich system trifecta, giving each faction its progenitor Liches and Lich weapons. For the Technocyte, of course, these are the Coda weapons. This shop would open with 13 weapons in the first wave, including some crowd favorites like Catabolyst and Synapse.

Technocyte Coda is also the most idiosyncratic of all the Lich faction variants due to its boy-band genesis. The actual Liches will still bear the expected features of an Infested abomination, but this unusual lore has arguably hyped it up much more than Sisters of Parvos (released over three years ago).

Despite the disappointing delay, this has not taken the wind out of Warframe 1999's sail, though. The actual Tech-rot faction is coming in all its glory, alongside the meat of the update set in the Hollvania open world.

There are a lot of features to look forward to in Warframe 1999, including a new Syndicate, new weapons, seven new arcanes, Gemini Skins, and not to forget, the romance system. To top it off, a PvPvE mode is also coming with this update as a surprise reveal.
