Rust will reportedly rework Horses, potential changes explored
A recent post on X from popular Rust content creator, @cipeaX, hints that Rust is working on changing the behavioral aspects of horses in the game. This has been long overdue and, in our opinion, would be an absolute game-changer for solo players and small groups.
This article will explore the potential changes that players can expect from the ongoing horse rework in Rust.
Note: The contents of this article are based on changes showcased on Rust's test server. They are subject to change.
All possible changes coming with the horse rework in Rust
While we do not have an official release date for the horse rework in Rust, we do speculate this rework to surface in the initial months of 2025. As showcased by @cipeaX, horses, with this update, will become a much more versatile form of transport in the game. The animal will now be capable of traversing through rough terrain and will be able to scale cliffs without much hindrance.
Furthermore, players, as per the Staging Branch showcase, will also be affected by the horse's movement in the game. In the event of a crash, players will be thrown off and will be dealt fall damage.

These upcoming alterations to horses will be a massive game-changer in Rust. It opens up possibilities that could never be explored before, and judging by how effectively horses seem to travel through cliffs, constructing a stable in the game now seems like a viable idea.
The horse rework, we believe, will reshape the meta for solo players. Previously, horses became ineffective as soon as the terrain saw some form of irregularity. But judging by the latest Staging Branch showcase, that will simply no longer be the case. Smaller groups and solo players will be able to build in secluded areas of the map with a sure-shot means of transportation in the game.
