Tencent subsidiary announces Light of Motiram, new Horizon-like "Mechanimal" multiplayer survival-craft

Amidst the rumors of a Horizon Zero Dawn MMO, arises Light of Motiram, an upcoming MMORPG from Tencent's new subsidiary Polaris Quest. This upcoming open-world survival game aims to combine the open-world and mechanical marvel of Guerilla Games' Horizon games with a survival/crafting and monster-taming aspect seen in recent games like Palworld.

While this will no doubt cause it to garner some controversy, it could still turn out to be something worth checking out. Here's everything players need to know about Light of Motiram, including gameplay details, platforms, and more.

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where machines have overrun the Earth. With humanity and civilization as we know it gone, the remnants of mankind must learn to survive in this perilous new era where mechanized beasts known as "Mechanimals" roam freely.

Players must explore — on foot or riding a beast — to find resources in the world, like mining rocks, fishing, and felling trees to obtain resources and crafting materials to invest in tools and even shelter from the wilderness. All the free-form building and crafting is seemingly powered by a physics-driven system, immersing players further into the world.

When faced with danger, players must be ready with the weapon of their choice to take down powerful robotic creatures in action combat, similar to the Horizon Games but with more combat variety. Players can also tame these Mechanimals of which there are over 100 different types to discover and bond with — which is what has triggered the Palworld comparisons.

These beasts of steel can be customized as well, allowing players to come up with varied combinations who will fight alongside players in the overworld against threats, including powerful bosses. This is an MMO after all, allowing up to 10 players to play together in a world to survive, fight, and enjoy the wonders of Light of Motiram.

The developer has confirmed that Light of Motiram is a PC-only title, meaning console players across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms will be missing out.

On the flip side, it is a free-to-play experience, available for Steam and Epic Games Store players to download and play either solo or with friends. So those intrigued can go wishlist it right now on the two digital storefronts.
