Will Warhammer 40,000: Darktide support crossplay?

With Warhammer 40,000: Darktide officially releasing on PS5 on December 3, 2024, Rejects are wondering about the possibility of crossplay. Well, there is good news to be had on this front. The developers, Fatshark, have confirmed that there will indeed be crossplay present at launch. Xbox and PC players will be able to play with their fellow Rejects on PS5 seamlessly.

This will undoubtedly swell the ranks of Rejects in-game, allowing for quicker matchmaking across the board. Here is what you will be able to do once the game launches on PS5:

  • Matchmaking across all platforms (PC, Xbox, and PS5)
  • Adding friends across platforms (PC, Xbox, and PS5)
  • Joining players from Steam and the Microsoft Store

Additionally, with the game finally releasing on PS5, veterans of Vermintide 2 on console will likely be the first to partake in the cleansing of Hive Worlds. To sweeten the deal, the launch on PS5 will encompass all of the content added over the last two years. Suffice it to say, there will be a lot of dead Heretics and Cultists come December 3, 2024.

Will Warhammer 40,000: Darktide support crossplay for specific platforms for PS5?

As of now, PC users on Steam cannot opt out of crossplay. On the contrary, Microsoft Store and Xbox players can play with those on the same platform. As such, PS5 users may be given an option to play with console players only.

Since there is no PvP present, unlike Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, the need to limit crossplay to specific platforms is moot. Skill-based matchmaking is of no concern here. Given these facts, crossplay support for specific platforms for PS5 users may not be a feature that is even needed.

Will Warhammer 40,000: Darktide support cross-progression on PS5?

Based on what we know thus far in an official capacity, there is no indication that cross-progression will exist on PS5. As it stands, only Xbox and the Microsoft Store versions of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will support cross-progression.

As for PC players on Steam and console players on PS5, their accounts will be limited to one device and one platform. This is unlikely to change in the future. So it's best not to get your hopes up. If you started playing on PC and want to switch to PS5, you will have to create a new account and purchase the game again.
