OSRS introduces fifth League, Raging Echoes, with new Combat Mastery system

Raging Echoes is the fifth League of Old School RuneScape's (OSRS) seasonal content pipeline, filled with new relics, region access, combat masteries, Echo Bosses, and more. OSRS is continuing its seasonal model that began in 2019 and is ramping up its offering with Raging Echoes, even bringing the region of Valarmore into the fold.

This article will briefly discuss all the important features coming to Old School RuneScape's Leagues V: Raging Echoes, and how to reap its rewards best.

What can you do in Raging Echoes?

First, players will need an account with an active OSRS membership to begin their Raging Echoes adventure into any of the green worlds. There will be 124 worlds to choose from, some of which are fresh additions to the Raging Echoes League. The adventure will begin on Lumbridge, and players will be locked to Misthalin, Karamja, and Lumbridge until they complete a few tasks. Players will start with Herblore and Runecraft skills unlocked.

As players accumulate points, more areas will be unlocked, of which players will be able to choose only three. These areas are as follows:

  • Fremmenik Isles
  • Asgarnia
  • Morytania
  • Kharidian Desert
  • Khandarin
  • Tirannwn
  • Kourend and Kebos
  • Valarmore

These choices cannot be changed later on, so it is paramount to make your decisions wisely. As players unlock more areas, the task list will grow accordingly, as will the point rewards.

These points will allow players to unlock relics, which in turn will imbue them with boosts like improved luck and increased XP gain etc. They will start with a level 1 relic but eventually unlock higher-level relics while accruing more points. Furthermore, all players will begin as Ironman and have a 5x multiplier on their XP gain, which can be further increased with relic tiers.

Echo Bosses are a major part of the Raging Echoes League, with all but the starting two areas not having any to fight. There are nine bosses to fight in total, and all of them will drop unique rewards upon death. Players will need to kill the normal variant of the bosses to obtain the area-specific Echo Orb, which will unlock the Echo versions permanently.

Combat Masteries are another unique feature of Raging Echoes League, which are somewhat restrictive in their power offerings. Players will obtain 10 points by completing Combat Mastery challenges, which can then be spent on Six tiers of three combat styles. Caution is advised while spending these points as they are non-refundable.

There are numerous QoL updates baked into this OSRS update, which are listed below:

  • Re-enabled the Blast Furnace shop.
  • Removed the blacklist for locations where Bankers’ Note could not be used.
  • Marks of Grace, Hallowed Marks, Agility vouchers and Stardust now benefit from the minigame multiplier.
  • Tripled the quantity of Nihil Shard drops.
  • Points are only transferred over to your main save every 500 Points accrued, to reduce server load. If you notice a discrepancy in Points between your main and League profile, this is why!
  • Disabled the ability to purchase XP in Pest Control and Soul Wars. A flat 2x combat XP multiplier has been added as a Relic passive to compensate. The hope here is that nobody will feel confined to minigames when they could be out exploring all the League has to offer. The increased combat power plus another 2x XP rates (so this is 32x combat XP at max rates) will mean you can train your stats very quickly.
  • Rocks, trees, respawnable items, and main-world NPCs will respawn faster than in the main game.
  • Production Master now works with: Making darts and arrows by using feathers on them. This is capped at making up to 10x at a time.
  • Removed the auto-completed Chompy Tasks for interacting with the Ogre Bow.
  • Hunter Rumours will be area-locked, like Slayer Tasks and Mahogany Homes.
  • Players will no longer start at level 10 Agility, as Draynor is now a level 1 Agility course.
  • Added instances for Cerberus, Sarachnis, and the Thermonuclear Smoke Devil.
  • Awakener's Orbs, Twisted Kits, And ToB:HM Kits now benefit from the drop rate multiplier.
  • You can access the tormented demon area without completing While Guthix Sleeps.
  • Scythe of Vitur can be recharged by using Blood Runes on it and does not require Vials of Blood.
  • Players can now purchase a Max Cape from the Sage once they are max level.
  • Cosmetic unlocks based on your previous Leagues rank are now added to your Bank rather than your Inventory on login.
  • Pet transmogs are now carried over to subsequent Leagues.
  • Duke won't clear potions or herbs after a kill.
  • Equilibrium now displays the amount of XP it has granted.
  • Swapped the minigame boosting effect at Guardians of the Rift to boost your points earned in the minigame, rather than the number of pearls obtained.

Old School RuneScape League V: Raging Echoes is live and will continue into January 2025. So players will have plenty of time to enjoy all the League has to offer.
