Path of Exile 2 has 100 bosses and the campaign takes 50+ hours to beat, says Game Director
Path of Exile 2’s YouTube channel recently released a fascinating video, featuring Jonathan Rogers, co-founder of Grinding Gear Games, and Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida. Once Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President, Shuhei Yoshida is now the head of their Indies Initiative. During the Tokyo Game Show, the two came together, and Shuhei learned more about the upcoming sequel to Path of Exile.
The two discussed new classes, couch co-op, and perhaps most interesting of all, the size of the game. While the overall game will start smaller than what PoE is at this time, Path of Exile 2 will feature 100 bosses and a massive 50+ hour campaign.
Path of Exile 2 is smaller than the prequel, but will still feature 100 bosses and a 50+ hour campaign
Jonathan Rogers and Shuhei Yoshida talked about Path of Exile 2 in great detail, showing off the Mercenary class, improved skill system, and so much more. But the big takeaway for us was the reveal of the boss count, and how long the campaign will be.
(Clip begins at 9:59)
Despite clearly being a smaller game than the modern day Path of Exile, this sequel will be massive in its own ways. Though Jonathan did say that the game was smaller, it will still an impressive title with plenty to see and do:
“So PoE 2 actually has 100 bosses, and 100 areas, so it’s a very big game.”
Path of Exile itself currently has 158 base maps and 32 unique maps, which is an impressive feat. However, it took quite a few years to build that much content. Path of Exile 2 is set to launch with its own impressive list of maps and bosses to overtake.
While we couldn’t find a hard number of bosses in the current game, we counted about 68 — so the sequel will have quite a few more. During the playthrough, Jonathan Rogers showed Shuhei Yoshida one of the Act 3 bosses, but unfortunately, we could not read the boss name.
During this boss fight, Jonathan Rogers revealed the campaign length. He pointed out that Path of Exile 1 has grown to be a massive game, but the sequel will still be a huge undertaking at launch:
“Well, PoE 1 has grown very large in a long time, so PoE 2 will probably start to be a bit smaller. Still, I think it will be around 50 hours to get through the campaign, and still have many, many features in the endgame. And the reason it has to be so big is because, you know with PoE 1 being so large, we have to make sure we can still appeal to all the players who are used to having such a large game.”
Between the endless class customization possibilities, the new skill system, and quality of life changes like couch co-op and crossplay, it will be a whole new ball game when Path of Exile 2 launches.
