How to get more Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2

Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2 is a key stat that helps you to traverse maps faster, evade enemies, and improve your overall efficiency. You can check your movement speed by opening the character sheet menu, where you'll find it's set to -3% by default. There are three main methods to boost Movement Speed: equipping gear with Movement Speed modifiers, investing in Passive Skills, and using specific Skill Gems.

In this guide, we shed light on everything you will need to know to improve your movement speed in Path of Exile 2.

Finding and upgrading boots

Check all Magic and Rare Boots you find, as they may have Movement Speed modifiers. Higher-level Boots have better potential modifiers, with level 82 Boots offering the maximum 35% bonus.

Upgrading Boots:

  • Use an Orb of Transmutation to upgrade Normal Boots to Magic.
  • Apply Orb of Augmentation to add a second modifier to the Magic item.
  • If you don't get movement speed at this point, it's inadvisable to use Regal Orbs or other high-rarity currency items. You can read up more on the rationale by hitting up our item crafting guide for beginners.

Movement Speed competes with eight other prefixes, so crafting success depends on luck.

If you're not on SSF, a far more efficient option is to buy Movement Speed Boots from other players. Level 82 Boots with maximum modifiers often cost 1–2 Exalted Orbs, but even lower-tier options are viable at any stage of the game.

Movement Speed nodes are found primarily on the right side of the Passive Skill Tree, making them easier to access for classes like Ranger, Monk, and Mage. Warriors may need to invest more skill points to reach these nodes.

While Movement Speed nodes can greatly enhance your efficiency, they often come at the cost of combat-related passives. Focus on these nodes if you value faster leveling and traversal over raw damage or survivability.

Skills and support gems

Certain Skills and Support Gems provide indirect Movement Speed bonuses, allowing you to navigate faster by mitigating movement penalties or using teleportation abilities. These include:

  1. Mobility (Support Gem): Available at Level 3, this gem reduces the effect of slow effects, effectively boosting your Movement Speed in combat.
  2. Flicker Strike (Skill Gem): Unlocked at Level 2, this skill teleports you to an enemy and deals damage, minimizing travel time between targets.

Incorporate these skills into your build to complement gear and passives. Mobility is particularly useful in areas with frequent slowing mechanics such as Chilled ground. Other traversal options such as Charge skills and Leap Slam also exist, and there will no doubt be more in the full release of Path of Exile 2 — but currently, movement speed-boosting Skill Gems do not exist in the game.
