Path of Exile 2 Ancient Vows quest guide (Find a use for The Relics)
Path of Exile 2 will ask you to find a use for a pair of Relics, kicking off the Ancient Vows quest. While most early-game quests give you a very clear direction of where to go, this one was a real mystery. Once one of the Relics drops, and the quest kicks off, it becomes remarkably unclear as to what you need to do with them.
Although this quest takes place during Act 2 of Path of Exile 2, finding it will likely be pretty random. Completing this quest is also worth it, as you can pick from one of two buffs — one increases your Charm Charges, and the other your Mana Recovery from Flasks. You can even come back anytime to change it, so you aren’t bound to it.
How to complete the Ancient Vows quest in Path of Exile 2 and find a use for the Relics
It’s very likely you started the Ancient Vows quest and didn’t even realize it. A wide assortment of enemies in the Mastodon Badlands can drop the Sun Clan Relic that starts the quest. Once you have that, you’re only instructed to “Find a use for The Relics” which is remarkably unhelpful.
The other relic you need is the Kabala Clan Relic — you’ll need to farm on the Keth map in Act 2 of Path of Exile for this step of Ancient Vows. It may take a while for it to drop, but just be patient and you’ll get it eventually. It's unfortunate, but these items tend to have a pretty low drop rate — with some players taking hours to find either of the Relics.
Once you have both the Relics in your inventory, head to the Valley of the Titans map, where, depending on how far in the Act 2 story you are, you may have already found the Waypoint. This is where you go for the A Crown of Stone quest, so keep that in mind. Since the Path of Exile 2 maps are randomized, finding the right spot during the Ancient Vows quest might be difficult.
However, all you need to do is find the Waypoint. There’s a passage next to the Waypoint; following it leads you to an altar. Click the Relics and place them on the altar to see a pair of buffs pop up on the screen, one on the left and one on the right:
- 30% increased Charm Charges gained
- 15% Mana Recovery from Flasks
Click whichever appeals to you most. For example, if your spells are costing a bit too much mana, whether they’re Occult or Sorceress, taking the Mana Recovery option might be better. You can always return and change your mind at any time. With that, Ancient Vows is completed, and you can forget about those annoying Relics forever.
