How to farm Gold in Path of Exile 2
When you begin Path of Exile 2, Gold seems such a ubiquitous drop that you may feel like it's not a resource you have to think much about. However, it's very possible to run into situations where your Gold reserves are running dry. This is an account-wide currency you'll need a lot of, because it's used in a number of different things, including gearing up for higher-level areas.
In this Path of Exile 2 guide, we'll explain how Gold drops work throughout the campaign, and mention some places you can run to get it at a higher concentration.
How to get more Gold in Path of Exile 2
In general, continuing to beat higher-level areas nets you the best long-term rate of Gold farming in Path of Exile 2. As you may have already noticed, this resource is dropped by most monsters. Generally, this scales with monster level, so higher-level areas with more monster-pack density will always yield a higher amount of Gold.
In other words, the amount of Gold you get in Path of Exile 2 scales with campaign progression, so you should just keep clearing the areas till you hit the Cruel rotation (and eventually, the endgame).
That being said, you may face some roadblocks on your journey, where you'll need to gear up on short order. In these cases, the following are some great short-term Gold farms in Path of Exile 2 (relative to your expected level of progression in that area). For all these cases, you'll need to find a quick route to do the discussed objective, portal back to town, and then reset your instance to run the area again.
Early-game (Act 1)
Beira of the Rotten Pack, whom you find in the first area out of town, is a deceptively good boss to farm for Gold. Not only is she located near the waypoint with an easy-to-identify arena, but she also drops a much larger amount of Gold than the monster packs in Clearfell this early on.
The second point of interest is Forgotten Riches in Tomb of The Consort. This is the underground area where you fight Asinia the Praetor's Consort, but there's also an optional area where you can get a lot of loose Gold as well as two Golden Chests. To open this secret area, look for a room with two pillars at the corners, two coffins in the middle, and a checkpoint in another corner. A switch on one of the pillars reveals a secret passage to the Forgotten Riches sub-area.
Mid-game (Act 2 and Act 3)
You can farm for Gold at the Vastiri Outskirts, the first area of Act 2 — it includes the monster packs you get out in the desert, as well as the Rathbreaker boss. While the boss is durable when you first reach Act 2 (depending on your build), you should come back here later to reset instances and farm for Gold mostly due to the small size of the map.
The opening area to Act 3, Sandswept Marshes, is an identical scenario. This place can get you a big return on your investment because of three reasons:
- A high density of monster packs with little downtime
- Two unique bosses
- High possibility of Rare monster spawns
- Numerous containers you can loot, meaning higher chances of magic or rare container spawns
Mid-late game (Cruel campaign)
After you beat Act 3 in Path of Exile 2 Early Access, Cruel is the New Game+ rotation of the campaign. All the areas that were good in the first rotation are also good here. Among them, Forgotten Riches in Act 1 Cruel Tomb of the Consort is particularly noteworthy as the best Gold farm in Path of Exile 2, relative to the area's progression level.
In closing, we should also mention the indirect sources of Gold — item drops. They take up inventory space, so it requires some judgment calls on your part regarding inventory management. However, the following tips apply universally, regardless of how far you've made it into the campaign:
- Always get items identified by The Hooded One before you sell to vendors.
- Rings, Amulets, Jewels, and Charms are the most valuable wares to pick up for sale.
- In farming runs, you can still come across good item bases for item crafting in Path of Exile 2, so glean through the catalog before you sell them off.
