Path of Exile 2: Blackjaw the Remnant boss guide
Path of Exile 2’s Blackjaw the Remnant is a boss you might completely miss when exploring Act 3. It is found in Jiquani’s Machinarium. I had to make a second pass through the area because I missed one tiny hallway leading to a checkpoint, where I ultimately encountered him. However, unlike most optional bosses in PoE 2, this one grants something powerful.
Blackjaw the Remnant in Path of Exile 2 gives you a permanent +10% Fire Resistance, which is one of the few permanent stat boosts you can get by beating bosses. Considering how steep the penalty for elemental resistances is in later acts, you’ll need everything you can get.
How to beat Blackjaw the Remnant in Path of Exile 2
To fight Blackjaw the Remnant in Path of Exile 2, you must first have a spare Lesser Soul Core. You can find them in Jiquani’s Machinarium, although there are only a few of them. Once you’ve secured one, find The Oubliette, which is hidden behind a Stone Altar. Use the Lesser Soul Core, and enter the Oubliette in Jiquani’s Machinarium. After a few moments, the boss will attack.
Avoid standing in front of Blackjaw the Remnant in Path of Exile 2 whenever possible. I know that’s easier said than done. If you must stay in front of him as a ranged character, stay as far back as possible. He frequently does a Line of Fire attack that sweeps across in front of him.
While it wasn’t fatal for me, it did shred my entire Energy Shield, so it’s something to be aware of. Blackjaw the Remnant also has a very powerful Slam Attack that can potentially one-shot a squishy character if they aren’t ready for it.
If you’re good at dodge rolling, you can ignore the vast majority of this boss’s damage. In my case, as a Minion build Witch, I was able to face-tank the flamethrower attack and let my minions take the slams. Then, I spammed Fire Wall for Raging Spirits and Flammability curse to reduce its fire resistance, and it dropped in a few moments.
This boss can also do a little push attack, although it isn’t much of a threat. In addition to its regular Slam Attack, it also can use an Upward Strike with its weapon, which can hit hard.
Around 50-60%, Blackjaw the Remnant will start using a Jump Slam. Dodge roll out of the way. However, note that it is a very quick move and you won’t have much time to move away. Stay on your toes.
He can also light his axe on fire and cleave forward. But a quick dodge roll behind or away from him can keep you safe from this. He’ll also start spitting high-speed fire projectiles. Run around him during this attack.
Once you’ve defeated the boss, claim the Flame Core as your reward and move deeper into the Machinarium. If you’re approaching this with a Frost Sorceress or another icy-attack user, you should have no trouble with him.
