How to travel between Checkpoints in Path of Exile 2

You can now fast-travel between checkpoints in Path of Exile 2 following the release of Early Access patch 0.1.0e. This was one of the most frequently requested features in the first week of the Early Access and a godsend, especially in Act 3. Several maps in this game are quite large, and since it incentivizes exploration through optional objectives, combing through maps would often become a tiresome backtracking process.

Given the limited mobility options and the lack of a mount system in sight, this will have to do for the time being.

Check-point warping in Path of Exile 2 works like the waypoint fast travel system, only on a more localized scale. However, you must first explore the map till you find two or more checkpoints to warp between. As long as you have activated two or more (they light up to indicate they're online), you can click on a checkpoint to bring up the map overlay and then click on the dot next to the one you want to travel to.

If you're playing with a PS5 controller, you can press Square near an active checkpoint to bring up the same menu, and then use the D-pad to warp to another checkpoint. Note that this system is dependent on the discovery of checkpoints, meaning the convenience is gone if the instance resets.

There's also another odd interaction at the time of writing: if you exit Path of Exile 2 after exploring a map and come back after a long time, you'll still have the same map overlay and exploration progress, but the checkpoint discovery will be erased.

In the first game, dying would make you spawn at the local waypoint, and incur some XP loss. Not only is that XP penalty gone now, but you also automatically respawn at the nearest checkpoint when you die in Path of Exile 2.

This has been a significant quality-of-life change, and the checkpoint warping mechanic makes it a lot better. This is a big live-saver in the massive Act 3 maps of Utzaal and The Drowned City, where exploration involves tedious amounts of backtracking.
