Path of Exile 2 Finding the Forge quest guide (Find Renly's tools)

While Finding the Forge can be unlocked pretty early in Path of Exile 2, you won't be able to complete it till the very end of Act 1. Renly, the local blacksmith in Clearfell Encampment, is missing his tools, from when he fled Ogham Village. You’ve been tasked with locating them — but when you finally get to the village, it’s on fire. The fact that the village has been set ablaze could make locating these tools harder.

However, like The Lost Lute, this quest is still quite important. Completing Finding the Forge in Path of Exile 2 will unlock the Salvage feature, which will no doubt become important later in the game. Here’s what you need to do to complete this quest.

Where to find Renly’s tools and complete Finding the Forge in Path of Exile 2

Since Path of Exile 2’s maps are randomized, completing Finding the Forge will be a bit hard. However, in our experience, Renly’s Tools were far away from the boss of the Ogham Village map, The Executioner. Thankfully, there is a bit of a hint you can look for when it comes to finding the tools amidst all the fire.

It was one of the few areas that weren’t completely covered in fire. You’ll see a walled-off area that has both a Checkpoint and an opening where you can walk through, as seen in the screenshot above. The location and direction you pass through will likely vary, but this is the type of area you will have to look for.

During both of my playthroughs, the quest item for Finding the Forge in Path of Exile 2 was found in the southern part of the map. I tend to start walking along the wall, heading south, and exploring deeper into the village when available. This will take some time unless you’re lucky, and it spawns early.

You may also have named monsters in this area that you’ll have to deal with, but that’s not always the case. When you’ve moved into the area beyond the checkpoint, you’ll see the Smithing Tools, with a green exclamation mark on the minimap. Pick these up, and teleport back to the Clearfell Encampment when you’re ready.

Speak to Renly and complete the quest. This gives you access to the Salvage Bench. You can take equipment with Rune Sockets or Quality upgrades here, and disassemble them for crafting materials like Artificer Shards, Blacksmith’s Whetstones, and so on. This will make upgrading gear later just a bit easier to do.
