Path of Exile 2: What to do with Golden Idols?

Path of Exile 2 has such a fascinating series of mysterious quest items, and this includes Golden Idols. Found in Act 3, you may stumble across them as you’re exploring Utzaal. There are multiple Idols to be found throughout this area, with several of them being free to take. The others will require you to fight Elites.

However, Golden Idols in Path of Exile 2 won’t require any fights outside of what you must overcome anyway. In this area, you can also find a Sacrificial Heart to use in Aggorat for a Book of Specialisation (+2 Passive Weapon Set Skill Points). But what do you do with the Golden Idol?

Note: Some parts of this article are subjective and reflect the writer's opinions.

What are Golden Idols and what can you do with them in Path of Exile 2?

You can find Golden Idols in Path of Exile 2 on the Utzaal map — to be more specific, we found it in Napuatzi’s Quarters. As PoE 2’s maps are randomized, there’s really no telling where on this you’ll find this room. You will just have to keep clearing waves of enemies until you find it.

There are a few other Idols you can pick up here as well: Grand Idol and Glorious Idol. The Elegant, Exquisite, and Exceptional Idols are in Aggorat — guarded by powerful enemies.

Once you’ve met Oswald in the Ziggurat Encampment during Act 3, you can take the Golden Idol (and any other Idol you’ve found) in Path of Exile 2, and sell them to him for gold. The following are the exchange rates:

  • Golden Idol: 500 gold
  • Glorious Idol: 1,500 gold
  • Grand Idol: 1,000 gold

In general, the consensus in the PoE 2 community is that this is not worth doing. Considering you only get 3,000 gold, you just end up wastimg a significant amount of time for little in return.

There aren’t many skippable quests in Path of Exile 2, but this one, frankly, doesn’t feel worth it. Unless you’re desperate for extra gold to reset some Passives, I’d skip this quest.
