Path of Exile 2 Lachlann of Endless Lament boss guide

Lachlann of Endless Lament is the final boss in The Cemetary of the Eternals area, whom you must beat to progress the Act 1 campaign in Path of Exile 2. In a rather tragic plot twist, the very NPC that tasks you with the Sorrow Among Stones quest undergoes a metamorphosis to become the big bad boss at its finale.

To get to this point, you'll have to defeat the interconnected bosses of the area: Draven the Eternal Praetor, and Asinia the Praetor's Consort. Once done, you get the full key to unlock the Memorial Gate, which will let you into the Memorial of The Lost — the stage for this fight.

How to defeat Lachlann of Endless Lament in Path of Exile 2

Lachlann's moveset in Path of Exile 2 includes a series of soul projectile attacks that create lingering trails of ice. Stepping on these slows you down, making them an effective area denial tool that presents a big part of the challenge in this fight. When there's too much ice on the ground, it's a good idea to try and circle the Tomb at the center to kite Lachlann till it melts down.

Below are all the all the moves that Lachlann can pull off, other than basic attacks.

The Dual Slam

Lachlann begins the fight by destroying the Memorial with the idol fused into his arm. During the fight, if you linger in his melee range, he will occasionally do a variant of this move — he slams his mutated arm into the ground in a big area, and then instantly slams it again behind him.

It's practically harmless if you're a ranged class, but almost inevitable if you're melee. He calls out "My rage burns" right before the attack, but not long enough for you to react. At the melee, it's therefore best to try and remain at his sides, which is the only place where you can try and dodge it.

Note that all of Lachlann's other melee attacks can be nullified with blocking.

Twin Souls - first variant

A luminous circle lights up at Lachlann's feet, and he draws out souls from the ground. He then shoots the spiraling set of souls towards you, leaving a trail of ice in its wake.

This attack can be easily mitigated by good positioning. Basically, whenever a glowing cyan circle starts lighting up at Lachlann's feet, move to a spot that puts the central Tomb structure in the middle. A collision with this will destroy the projectile, as well as eliminate the possibility of the ice trail.

Lachlann stretches out his palm which starts glowing, and souls emerge out of the ground beneath your feet before they crash down into you again. When you see the glowing palm, you can dodge-roll twice, to save yourself from both instances of damage if you time it right. However, the spot of ice this creates is inevitable.

The Homing Soul

This is Lachlann's most complex move, and the hardest to avoid. After he's down to half HP, Lachlann will stomp the ground, creating a tiny linear fissure through the ground ahead of him, which will eventually release a soul.

The soul rises out of the ground, homes in on you, attempting to circle you for five seconds, and then plunges back into the ground, dealing a final instance of damage. Due to this homing nature, it will leave an inevitable ice trail on the ground if you are moving about.

Lachlann slams the ground, sending out a massive landslide that covers a big area and deals high damage. This is the only attack that triggers the warning stinger common with Path of Exile 2 boss fights, so dodge-roll laterally whenever you hear it. If you're a melee class, get to his flanks right after the stinger.

Beating Lachlann of Endless Lament may take some patience — it's a marathon, not a race. Once you do beat him, though, he gives you the object you need to wake up The Hooded One, who unlocks the ability to respec your passives, as well as identify your items for free in the town.
