Can your character migrate to other Leagues in Path of Exile 2?
The question of whether Path of Exile 2 players will be able to migrate Leagues is a pretty interesting one. While technically, the answer should be yes, but we are inclined to say no as of the present. While there are situations when you will automatically migrate from one League to another, what about actually choosing to migrate to a different League?
At this time in Path of Exile 2, you really only have two Leagues—Hardcore and Standard, although there will be other complex, challenging Leagues coming in the future. But what about changing Leagues in PoE 2? Let’s dive into it, shall we?
Do you have the power to migrate to other Leagues in Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 does feature a League Migration button, but at this time it does nothing - so no, you cannot migrate from one League to another. However, given that there is a button for it, this could change sometime in the future. Grinding Gear Games has yet to mention what they plan to do with this button.
Some Leagues can become incredibly challenging, or even frustrating - look at Hardcore, for example. The notion that one death can end your run completely can bother players and they might choose not to play it. However, while you can’t go back right now, technically there is a way for Hardcore players to migrate to the Standard League in Path of Exile 2. All you have to do is die.
When a Hardcore/Solo Self-Found Hardcore player dies, their character doesn’t get deleted - instead, it leaves the server and migrates over to the Standard League, where you can resume playing. However, you can’t go back to Hardcore once you’ve been banished on that character - but that’s probably obvious.
In addition, once a Challenge League ends, characters on those servers migrate to the Standard League as well. So there are ways to swap to another League. However, a player can’t decide to get a bunch of gear from a friend, and then join the Solo Self-Found ruleset.
However, since we know that there is a Migrate League button in the game, it will be interesting to see how this changes either during Early Access or once the game has fully released. We will update this accordingly when we have more information on what the button will offer. This will likely have functionality once the first Challenge League launches.
