Does Path of Exile 2 have mounts?
Given how large some maps in Path of Exile 2 are, many wonder whether there's a mount system in-game. The answer is no as of writing, but it's confirmed that the developers intend to implement the feature in the future. Specifically, an official video about Ranger gameplay released in March 2024 features a Rhoa Mount, meaning at least one developer test branch has a working mount system in Path of Exile 2.
At the time of writing, an abandoned Rhoa Mount can be found in Deshar during the Act 2 campaign, but you cannot ride it.
How will the Rhoa Mount function in Path of Exile 2?
As seen in the official Ranger Gameplay showcase earlier this year, the Rhoa Mount is a fully functional steed for traversal as well as combat. The footage specifically features a Ranger character shooting the Lightning Arrow Skill while mounted, meaning projectile-based attacks are meant to function.
All in all, the following has been revealed about the Rhoa Mount system in PoE 2 in that brief feature:
- The Rhoa Mount will attack enemies independently while you're not riding it, acting as a companion in combat.
- You have complete freedom of movement while riding the Rhoa, but it's not known whether the dodge-roll works.
- While mounted, some attacks (projectile weapons like Crossbow and Bow) and Skills (Lightning Arrow, Lightning Rod) are confirmed to work.
- Casting ranged skills while moving slows you down in Path of Exile 2. However, being mounted will allow you to cast these Skills without the movement speed penalty.
- If you get Heavy-Stunned while on the Rhoa Mount, you'll be dismounted, and it will take a while to recover.
Note that the features given here might not make it to the actual game when the Rhoa Mount gets implemented. There are some obvious telltale signs that the developer build that featured the Rhoa is vastly outdated compared to the current live branch. For example, you only have one Life and Mana Flask each, and the player cannot be Heavy-Stunned.
So far, it's known that the mount will be a Minion Skill, but it's unclear whether it's from an independent Skill Gem or granted by the unreleased Ranger Ascendancy.
