Path of Exile 2: Rootdredge boss guide

Path of Exile 2 has quite a few interesting optional bosses, such as the zombie-controlling Rootdredge. This huge undead monster appears to be made of corpses and swamp trees and has the power to control and detonate the undead. His combat patterns aren’t incredibly complicated, but as with any enemy that can summon monsters, you don’t want to get overwhelmed by how much he can put in your way.

One of the more grotesque bosses in Path of Exile 2, Rootdredge is certainly a foe worth fighting if you’re trying to pick up more crafting materials and potentially better loot. If you want to know how to deal with him, we’ve got you covered.

How to beat Rootdredge in Path of Exile 2

While exploring Sandswept Marsh in Path of Exile 2, you’ll likely stumble upon an area known as the Foul Ritual — this is Rootdredge’s home. You’ll see a green flash on the screen when he awakens, similar to the color you see for corpses on the ground. This makes sense because it appears this ability summons the undead to walk out of the brush.

From hulking abominations to groups of zombies rising out of the sand, you’re seldom alone in this fight. The abominations can also puke up huge piles of vomit, so avoid both being hit by it or standing on it.

In addition, Rootdredge can summon green-flame-wreathed skulls that will chase you down. If that weren’t enough to keep you on your toes and constantly moving around, Rootdredge can also create mini whirlpools that will try to drag you in during this Path of Exile 2 boss fight.

This boss constantly summons the undead too, so you need really strong AOE-clear skills. As a Witch, I’d use a few combined curses to blow up huge groups of enemies at once, but Sorcerers also have tons of options as well.

You also need to avoid standing near any corpses, because Rootdredge has Corpse Explosion. If you aren’t careful, he can overwhelm you with enemies, flying skulls, and explosions. As a rule, any glowing green effect that isn’t yours is bad and should be avoided. However, Rootdredge is weak to Fire and uses Physical and Fire attacks. He’s resistant to Physical and Cold, so be careful of that.
