How to get more Spirit in Path of Exile 2

You do not get innate Spirit with any class in Path of Exile 2, leading newcomers to wonder how to get more. This new resource is required most of all by Witch class skills, which reserve some Spirit for summoning persistent minions. Nevertheless, you'll still need a token amount of Spirit to get your first Buff Gems online, and with our guide, we'll tell you how to do just that.

While every class can use Spirit to some degree or another, in Path of Exile 2’s Early Access, the use it to a higher degree than anyone else. This could change as other classes are introduced to the game, of course.

Why do you need Spirit in Path of Exile 2?

Spirit is a new Path of Exile 2 resource, designed to power specific abilities. It is the resource needed for all Summoned monsters, as well as for activating Metagems or Buff Gems. You must have a certain amount of Spirit in reserve to activate these abilities. For example, the first time you unlock Skeletal Archers, they need a whopping 90 Spirit simply to have one in play.

Even if you are class that doesn't use the summon spells at all, you'll still need an incremental amount of Spirit to properly use Metagems or Buff Gems. These skill not only require a flat amount of Spirit to activate and keep up, but the cost increases with each Support Gem you link to that Metagem/Buff.

You can get more Spirit in Path of Exile 2 in two ways (and a third way for some Ascendancies).

Permanent Spirit bonus from bosses (character-bound)

There are two optional bosses in Path of Exile 2 that grant permanent Spirit to a character via unique consumables:

  • Defeating the King in the Mists boss in Act 1 drops Gembloom Skull, which increases your base Spirit by +30.
  • Defeating Ignaduk the Bog Witch in Act 3 drops Gemrot Skull, which also increases your Spirit by an additional +30.
  • Ignaduk drops Gemcrust Skull in Act 3 Cruel, this time increasing your Spirit by +40.

Itemization

The main way to increase Spirit is to wield a Sceptre. This item type give +100 Spirit by default, and it can be held in the off-hand. A Sceptre can also ship with the percentage-based Spirit increment modifier as one of its affixes, and on top of that, improving their quality also increases the amount of Spirit they grant.

The highest Spirit we have seen on a Sceptre is a whooping 248, as per a verified listing on the official PoE2 Trade website.

Other than that, here are the known alternative ways of increasing Spirit through itemization:

  • The Oaksworn Sigil Crest Unique shield comes with +50 Spirit.
  • Magic and Rare Armor can roll with the +Spirit affix. According to POE2DB, this can go all the way up to +61 Spirit at the highest tier of the modifier.
  • Solar Amulets come with a +10 to +15 Spirit modifier, and they can also additionally roll +Spirit as an external affix. Notably, the Beacon of Azis unique Amulet also grants up to +45 total Spirit.

Infernalist Ascendancy

A third and final way of increasing Spirit is exclusive to the Witch's Infernalist Ascendancy. This Ascendancy tree features the Beidat's Will Passive, which grants +1 Spirit for every 25 Maximum Life on your character. Witch naturally specs a bit into the Strength Attribute, which means it's easy to get over 1000 Life by the end of the Cruel campaign, which would mean 40 extra Spirit for free.

Invoker Ascendancy

Monk's Invoker Ascendancy has easy access to the "Lead me Through Grace..." Passive, which increases 1 Spirit for every 6 Energy Shield, and also 1 Spirit for each 15 points of Evasion. However, as a tradeoff, this disables all Spirit granted by equipment, including the Spirit gained from holding a Sceptre.
