Path of Exile 2: Treasures of Utzaal quest guide
Path of Exile 2 features plenty of side quests, including Treasures of Utzaal, a quest offered by Oswald during Act 3 of the main campaign. Completing this quest is going to require some pretty serious digging through maps, but it’s not incredibly challenging. You will have to fight one boss that some players have labeled unfair — but if you’re strong enough, you’ll smash them to pieces.
Additionally, if you want the Reforging system, you’ll need to complete Treasures of Utzaal in Path of Exile 2. You don’t need to be especially high level to do it — as long as you’re at least level 41 or so, you should have zero problems completing this side quest.
How to complete Treasures of Utzaal quest in Path of Exile 2
Once you have accepted Treasures of Utzaal in Path of Exile 2’s Ziggurat Encampment, and have access to The Drowned City, you can begin this side quest. Below are all the steps you will take if you want to complete this particular side quest.
- Search for The Molten Vault
- Summon and Talk to Oswald
- Clear out the Molten Vault
- Defeat Mektul, the Forgemaster
- Pick up The Hammer of Kamasa
- Bring The Hammer of Kamasa to Oswald
The first and perhaps most annoying step of Path of Exile 2’s Treasures of Utzaal quest is to Search for The Molten Vault. The entrance to this zone is found on The Drowned City map, and unfortunately, there are no real clues to guide you. Search the outside edges of the map, and you should eventually come upon the entrance.
However, I can tell you that typically, The Molten Vault is on a little path of its own with a Checkpoint — as seen in the screenshot above. It may not always look like this, but that’s how it appeared when I ran this side quest. Summon and Talk to Oswald, and then head inside.
The quest reads Clear out the Molten Vault, but it’s unlikely that you have to kill every enemy. You just need to navigate until you reach The Aureaduct. There, you’ll find the Sluice Gate Lever, which you need to activate. You’ll ride a little platform down into the Arena.
As you progress through The Molten Vault, you’ll occasionally see Checkpoints, just in front of a river of lava that you can’t really seem to overcome. In my playthrough, these were a Red Herring, and I just had to keep walking down narrow hallways until I reached The Aureaduct.
Once you arrive at that location — take a trip on the platform, and down into the arena to fight Mektul the Forgemaster. You want to keep him out of the lava as much as possible in this DPS race. He has a huge cone attack that he blasts out, and can conjure small waves of molten gold you must avoid. Watch out for those and his leap smash in particular. It’s very much a DPS check.
Once you’ve defeated the boss, Pick up The Hammer of Kamasa, and Bring The Hammer of Kamasa to Oswald in Ziggurat Encampent. This will unlock the Reforging system in Path of Exile 2, wrapping up Treasures of Utzaal.
