Path of Exile 2: What do the mushrooms in Act 3 do?

As you progress through Path of Exile 2’s Act 3, you will occasionally find some colored mushrooms. Three kinds of mushrooms, namely Red Mushroom, Green Mushroom, and Blue Mushroom can drop, and each of them is useful – but the real question is “where” and “how." While many of the side quests in PoE 2 are pretty obvious, and unlocked through a mission from an NPC, that’s not always the case.

For example, the Ancient Vows side quest in Act 2 doesn’t begin until you find one of the Relics. While the mushroom side quest in Path of Exile 2 can be terribly confusing, we’re here to help get you on track.

Where are the mushrooms in Act 3 of Path of Exile 2 and what do they do?

Path of Exile 2’s Act 3 features a series of quest item mushrooms that can drop for players. These three mushrooms are located in the Apex of Filth and can drop from random enemies. Like most other quest item drops from enemies in PoE 2, these can either be incredibly generous and drop swiftly or take hours of grinding.

Once you have the mushrooms, you can take them to the Cauldron Keeper – you’ll see a huge, bubbling cauldron, with an NPC behind it. This is also located in the Apex of Filth region, but finding it is a bit of a challenge since the map is massive. Thankfully, the game does give you a little hint on where to find it.

The Cauldron Keeper will always be near a set of stairs that look like they’d go to a temple or an altar. When you have all three mushrooms, visit the Cauldron Keeper, and throw them in the Cauldron to complete this Path of Exile 2 quest. However, the nature of the reward may - or may not - be what you need.

Your reward will be a Magic (Blue) Life and Mana flask. These could be incredibly powerful or wildly mediocre. That’s entirely up to you, and what you need. The affixes that come with them are randomized, so you could get something completely useless. However, with any luck, these Life and Mana flasks will be upgrades for your current playthrough.
