Path of Exile 2: Xyclucian the Chimera boss guide

Path of Exile 2’s Xyclucian the Chimera is a boss that can really throw melee players off. It’s often out of reach as it likes to stand atop huge stone pillars. Like a typical Chimera in other mythologies and settings, it has a wide assortment of elemental attacks. However, you have plenty of options when dealing with this powerful foe.

As long as you can maneuver around Xyclucian's long-range attacks, you can give yourself an opening. Like all Act 3 bosses, including the optional Mighty Silverfist, this Chimera can deal incredible damage in a short period of time.

How to beat Xyclucian the Chimera in Path of Exile 2

You’ll encounter Xyclucian the Chimera in the Chimeral Wetlands of Path of Exile 2’s Act 3. It awaits in the Deadly Nest section, which, in my experience, was in the northeastern section of the map. However, your location will almost certainly vary due to the random nature of the map.

Look for the Checkpoint with several huge stone pillars. It’s a wide, open area with lots of foliage. Once you’re inside, Xyclucian will drop in to fight.

This Path of Exile 2 boss has some melee strikes, but they pale in comparison to the rest of its arsenal. It will likely use a Flame Breath attack early on in a wide, sweeping arc.

Xyclucian often jumps onto one of the stone platforms. The first time, it showers the map in Poison Spit attacks that briefly left a little AOE behind them. However, you can break these stone pillars to knock the boss down. This gives you an opening to really unleash hell.

This is a fight where Minion builds in Path of Exile 2 really shine. For example, you can drop Flammability and a pair of Flame Walls to let Raging Spirits do all the work while dodging the Poison Spit. If you break the platform, you’ll have several seconds to smash Xyclucian with as much damage as you can muster.

While its melee attacks are mediocre, Xyclucian has a very strong pounce attack, which often comes after being stunned by a fall. It also uses a lightning attack that shoots crackling shots of lightning in one direction. It’s pretty easy to evade, but there’s a lot of it.

If Xyclucian jumps into the air, it will aim down and follow you with a fire breath attack. If it leaves the screen, it’s either going to land on a pillar and spit Poison or fly across the screen and lay down a large line of ice to avoid.

Towards the 25% health mark, Xyclucian will likely be enraged and briefly do a series of AOE stomps down to try and damage you; it hits incredibly hard. It will also start lobbing a fireball and do its stomp more often.

Success in this fight will drop a wide assortment of items and potentially Skill Gems. It will also drop the Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum, which gives you access to the Trials of Chaos optional dungeon.

Defeating this boss also gives you access to Jiquani’s Machinarium, which is another step on the Legacy of the Vaal quest.
