Zalmarath the Colossus is a Path of Exile 2 Act 2 boss that can be found while completing a series of quests. This boss has a mixture of AOE and precision ground attacks, alongside a wipe mechanic that is guaranteed to kill a player. Without proper knowledge of the boss' attack patterns, it is very easy for one to get overwhelmed and hit a massive wall before progressing any further.

This article lists the basics of the Zalmarath boss fight in Act II, including where to find the boss and tips to make the fight easier.

Where to find the Zalmarath the Colossus in Path of Exile 2?

Zalmarath the Colossus can be found inside a hidden area of the "Valley of the Titans," called Titan Grotto. To access Titan Grotto, you have to explore the entirety of Valley of the Titans and activate three runes.

Next, interact with the huge tree in the middle of the location, and a path will open up inside. Make sure to get the Waypoint right after entering the Titan Grotto.

Zalmarath's fight includes quite a lot of attacks from the boss, alongside a wipe mechanic that can easily kill a player. Here is a list of attacks that Zalmarath will perform during the fight:

  • A ground sweep with the hand that can deal damage if the player is caught in the middle of it.
  • A straight cut on the ground from the middle to the edge of the platform.
  • Three consecutive slams near the boss' body.
  • Numerous red bolts in an AOE attack, with each bolt dealing slight damage to the player.
  • Shoots the ceiling, leading to rocks dropping on the platforms in random places. Can inflict minor damage to players.
  • Numerous red lasers attacking any player who is at a distance.
  • A ground slam with one hand.
  • WIPE MECHANIC: If the boss impales a Sword in the middle of the platform, players should stand behind the sword to protect themselves from the incoming wipe mechanic. The attack is an area-wide fire that stays active for 4 seconds.
  • Occasionally, small mobs, capable of freezing, will fly toward the player. These should be taken care of immediately.

Note that the slam attacks near the edge of the platform are performed by the boss every time a player closes the distance between them and Zalmarath. The bolt and the laser attack are meant for ranged players.

Always keep an eye out for when the boss impales his weapon in the middle of the platform. That will be your cue to move behind the sword and protect yourself from the incoming AOE wipe damage.

How to defeat Zalmarath the Colossus in Path of Exile 2?

If you are encountering Zalmarath in the standard version of Act 2, forget about building up the boss' stun bar, as it is nearly impossible to stun him. However, his health pool is not that high and can be easily drained with the correct damaging setups. Firstly, to make the fight easier, note that the boss is significantly easier as a melee class. Hence, the Warrior and the Monk classes are in for a good time.

As for the ranged classes, a good tip will be to stay near the boss' body when it is performing the laser attack. For bolts, simply avoid each one and move to the opposite side from the boss since they start to spread more while traveling.

Lastly, as mentioned above, always deal with the small mobs when they fly in, as they can freeze you, leading to your death. Also, follow the steps to avoid the wipe mechanic as stated in the section above, and you should be good enough to defeat Zalmarath.
