Path of Exile 2 Earning Passage quest guide
Path of Exile 2’s Act 2 begins with Earning Passage, where you’ll try to join a nearby Caravan. However, nothing is free out here, and you’re going to have to lend a hand if you want them to take you for a ride. The map you explore for this quest is especially massive, and the difficulty certainly ramps up while you’re out here. Hence, you should be at least level 16, though higher is never a bad thing.
You unlock this quest after defeating Count Geonor at the end of Act 1 and traveling to the next portion of the game. If you’re struggling with Path of Exile 2’s Earning Passage quest, we’re here to get you back on track.
How to complete the Earning Passage quest in Path of Exile 2
You will begin Earning Passage almost immediately after starting Act 2 of Path of Exile. However, you don’t have to jump right into Act 2 after beating Count Geonor – if you worry that your level is too low or you don’t have strong enough gear, you can farm maps and bosses in Act 1, first. Once ready, you can find the quest objectives below.
- Talk to the Hooded One, and then “Someone in charge” (Zarka)
- Destroy the Hyenic Raiders
- Speak to Zarka again
Once you’ve arrived at the Vastiri Outskirts in Path of Exile 2, you can begin Earning Passage by talking to the Hooded One. From there, you’ll need to speak to Someone in charge nearby to try and gain passage on the Caravan. Zarka will let you take a spot on the Caravan - only if you destroy the Hyenic Raiders.
However, don’t be mistaken - there is a very specific group of Hyenic Raiders you need to defeat for Path of Exile 2’s Earning Passage quest. The random packs of Hyenas and raiders out in the Vastiri Outskirts won’t be good enough. You need to best their leader, Rathbreaker.
The map itself is quite large, and there’s no telling where you might find Rathbreaker. However, thanks to the topography, there are some clues. Rathbreaker will always be found on top of a raised cliff, as seen in the image above. It will also be surrounded by mountains almost certainly, making it a very obvious visual clue.
One thing I noticed, is that the mob packs are much more dangerous, and there were plenty of named enemies that roamed near each other. This made the map exploration much harder, but also more worthwhile when it came to loot drops.
Rathbreaker is a challenging foe, and will consistently summon adds to help him fight. We’ve already written an in-depth guide on defeating this foe, so if you need further help, we’ve got you covered.
Watch out for the Archers above you as well as his powerful, but reckless Charge attack. Still, you can easily get out of the way once he starts up the charge. Rathbreaker also has a devastating Slam Combo and lots of Hyenas to bring into the fight.
Towards the end of the fight, the mob of Hyenas can get overwhelming. Do note that if you defeat him but die to his mobs, you likely won’t get any loot. Once Rathbreaker is defeated, Talk to Zerka again to complete Earning Passage in Path of Exile 2 and get on the caravan.
