Rust will reportedly feature siege weapons in future update
A recent post from popular Rust content creator, cipeaX, indicates that siege weapons are in development within the game. These weapons have been introduced in the game's staging branch, and are reportedly ready to be released with a future update.
This article will give players a detailed brief on Siege weapons in Rust. To know more, read below.
What are Siege weapons in Rust?
Siege weapons in Rust are a brand-new set of artillery structures currently being developed in the game's staging branch. As showcased by cipeaX, quite a few siege weapons will be introduced in the game.
Judging by how the weapons function, the brand-new wave of artillery devices will primarily be used for online and offline raids. They will be used to demolish compound walls and lay waste on players' bases and other structures surrounding them.
As per cipeaX, four different siege weapons are currently in development and coming soon to the official servers of Rust. They are:
- Battering Ram
- Siege Tower
- Catapult
- Ballista
As evident from the staging branch showcase, all siege artillery weapons in the game will be craftable and deployable. That said, let us explore these different weapons in detail.

Battering Ram
The Battering Ram is our very first siege tool. It is capable of breaking down building blocks and raiding through them. This weapon is drivable and consumes Low-Grade as its primary source of fuel.
As of now, the weapon is capable of breaking down stone-high walls in approximately 60 seconds. However, players have to repair it at intervals to keep the artillery weapon functional during their raids.

Siege Tower
The Siege Tower is a towable, deployable, and constructible artillery tool. It is four stories high and can be used to enter compounds and bases that you are raiding. As of now, the second and fourth floors have drawbridges that can be extended when required.

Catapult
The Catapult is a craftable artillery weapon that can be placed and then built using the hammer in Rust. With the required materials in hand, players can build this item anywhere they want. It features three different types of ammunition, namely, standard boulders, incendiary boulders, and explosive boulders.
