The First Descendant Season 2 'Void Chaser' will introduce a dog companion that can auto-dismantle gear
Codenamed Void Chaser, The First Descendant Season 2 is going live on December 5, 2024, and the feature set involves something potentially far more game-changing than the last season. Namely, a German Shepherd you can take into battle for various auxiliary QoL boons. With how your build was previously defined by only the chosen Descendant and gun loadout, this is a good avenue to open it up further.
The new canine companion is not everything, though. Two new characters will be introduced during Season 2, alongside an Ultimate variant of Sharen, new Ultimate weapons, a new boss-mutation system, and a new dungeon.
Before getting into the nitty-gritty, note that all of the content is not coming on day one with the Season 2 release. Akin to The First Descendant Season 1, some of it will be subject to a staggered release schedule.
Everything new in The First Descendant Season 2 - Void Chaser (known so far)
Arche Fellow System (dog companion)
The highlighted feature of Season 2 is of course the dog companion. Companions will be called "Arche Fellows" in The First Descendant, and they are a game-changer. Rather than boosting your firepower, their benefits make other facets of the gameplay much simpler. While you take care of the shooting, they'll take care of the looting, picking up loot for you and auto-dismantling it according to your filter.
The companion will also have their own customization options, including fur patterns and body armor.
New Descendant: Keelan Ayodele
The first of the two new Descendants to be introduced in Season 2, Keelan will be the second toxin-based character alongside Freyna. Compared to Freyna, Keelan will possess a more mobile skillset, allowing him to consecutively dash through enemies to damage as well as stay on the run.
New Descendant: Ines Raya
Coming later in a mid-season update in January 2025, Ines will be a new Electric-Attribute Descendant specializing in AoE damage. Since she's a Week 7 addition for this Season, further details haven't been disclosed about her just yet.
New Dungeon: Void Vessel
So far, all of the dungeons in The First Descendant have been linear static maps. However, that changes with Void Vessel, whose layout will be randomized for a fresh experience every time. Unlike 400% Infiltration, these are available to mid-game players too, as you can open in from Mastery Rank 8 onwards.
Whether this randomization is the same as Warframe's tileset procgen or something more predictable remains to be seen.
Ultimate Sharen and Sharen quest
While Keelan and Ines pick up the slack to continue the main campaign's search for Ironheart, Sharen is getting her own story quest on the side. This comes as no surprise to those who played Freyna's story quest from Season 1, as it was heavily telegraphed that Sharen's turn is up next.
Naturally, many also predicted Ultimate Sharen, which is also coming with Season 2.
Intercept Battle endgame: Void Abyss and Void Reflux
The First Descendant Season 2 is also extending the endgame ceiling of Void Intercept battles with Void Abyss mode. In this mode, bosses will gain Void Reflux phases instead of Frenzy, featuring enhanced attack patterns and regenerating body parts, making them far more challenging mechanically as well as DPS-checks.
In return, players who beat bosses in this mode get to don Colossus Cosmetics, boss-themed trophies of conquest that cannot be acquired with premium.
Season 2 is also coming with new mods, new Ultimate weapons (Hammer and Anvil, Voltia), and more - we'll learn about it in more detail when the patch notes drop on December 5, 2024.
