How to fish in Towers of Aghasba
As a game intensely focused on ecological mechanics, Towers of Aghasba comes with a fishing system. However, there's no fishing minigame involved here. It's the same as hunting — except you don't have the option to poke the fish at the melee. If you're a beginner eager to start fishing in-game, this guide will tell you where to unlock its tools.
The information in this article is based on the Early Access build of Towers of Aghasba. The fishing system may be fleshed out more in future versions on the way to its full release.
How to catch fish in Towers of Aghasba
To get your fishing tools in Towers of Aghasba, talk to Hao who can be found standing on a cliff near a lake in central Amani Island. The fishing tools are nothing fancy: they're just your bow and flint spear. You get this as part of the Unleash the Hunter Within quest, and fishing is also one of the objectives to complete this quest.
Many fish can be found swimming in the lake underneath. To catch fish in Towers of Aghasba, you can either throw your Spear at them or stick an arrow. The former option requires you to retrieve your spear after you stick the landing, so going with the bow is a no-brainer. The arrows are reasonably fast projectiles, so the real challenge is in spotting the fish. We also tried tinkering around with the graphical settings, but none of this improves the visibility of underwater objects.
While there are a lot of fish in the rivers, lakes, and oceans, only a few will approach near enough to the surface. It's near-impossible to spot them at night, so wait for daylight. The best way to make them easier to spot is to stand at a higher elevation. With Hao's quest, his position is the best vantage point for your first kills.
What do you get from fishing in Towers of Aghasba?
As one would expect, this activity yields fish meat that can be used to feed carnivore animals or cook for yourself. It can also provide Bones, a crafting material.
Additionally, you can use the Shimuscope to observe fish and add them to your Shimudex for further information. In the first Early Access build, there are 40 different types of fish to discover.
