How to get Hide in Towers of Aghasba
A handful of resources in Towers of Aghasba can be foraged off the ground, but Hide is understandably not one of them. This is a relatively harder resource to come by early on, and you require a bunch of them to set up your first farmer's hut, or even earlier if you want to pitch a tent to spend the night. In this guide, we'll go over the sources of Hide, and strats to use to get it.
Before we proceed, note that all of this is based on the current Early Access build of Towers of Aghasba. There may be further ways to get Hide in the future as the game evolves on its way to a full release.
How to farm Hide in Towers of Aghasba
Hide can be gained by slaying creatures in Towers of Aghasba. With the exception of Withered enemies (the spiders on Amani Island), all creatures have a good chance of dropping 1-3 units of Hide from their loot bag once slain.
You'll need 2x Hide to make a Tent, and 3x to set up your Cozy Farming Hut in the course of the main quest. Since Hide is directly tied to hunting, it's best you obtain the right tools for the job first; this means talking to Hao, who can give you your starter bow and spear.
Afterwards, you can shoot the Beetlepups (spindly dog-like creatures) scuttling across the plains to get some Hides. Later on, you'll need this resource in much larger quantities. If you want to farm and bank more Hide for future use, it's best you set up the temperate biome with the help of a Colossal Seed you get from Pawel.
The Collosal Trees are a hub spot that attracts many herbivores. You can hunker down on top of the tree or a nearby cliff and hunt the Skirtrau and Beetlepups nearby. If you're having trouble leading your shots, toss some food their way to make them stationary targets.
There's one problem it poses: killing creatures will reduce your Amity reserves. Unfortuantely, there's no direct way to avoid the Amity penalty from killing herbivores to farm Hide. There are, however, two loopholes that we're aware of where you can get Hide without dropping Amity.
The first is to find and hunt Lockjaws and Roughjaws. These are high-damage predators that will two-tap you if they get close, so you must get good at kiting.
The other method is to stake out Razliths (giant spiders), who will often also hunt Beetlepups and other creatures that stray too close for comfort. Creatures that die in this organic manner still drop a loot bag, so you can get some guilt-free Hide this way.
Both of these can take a while, as they're not readily available measures. It's often a better way to just hunt common creatures, and offset the amity penalty by planting seeds.
