How to get a mount in Towers of Aghasba
Towers of Aghasba features a rather vast set of islands to explore, so a mount is a handy addition to your repertoire. For those who were wondering — yes, there is a mount you can ride in this game. However, it's not accessible on the first island you settle in (Amani Island). At the time of writing, we have found one Harelope you can ride in the Early Access, but there may be more in the future.
In this guide, we'll discuss how you can procure and ride a mount in Towers of Aghasba.
How to unlock your mount in Towers of Aghasba
Your starter mount in Towers of Aghasba is a Harelope bred by one of your fellow Shimu settlers. To obtain it, though, you have to get to the Midrath Isles first. That means you have to advance the main quest and repair the broken bridge that connects Amani Island and the mainland. This will require checking boxes in its own Fill Order, which needs an advanced cooked dish (Skewered Meat), and a large quantity of resources.
Once you get there, the mount is unlocked by clearing the sidequest, A Mount for your Troubles. This can be found directly to the south of the Midrath town portal, so you can get to it immediately after repairing the broken bridge.
The quest is just a coating for yet another Fill Order that tasks you with rebuilding the Midrath stable. This requires the following materials:
- 8x Wood
- 6x Thatch
At this point in the game, you'll likely already have all of this material on hand. However, if you don't, it's still quite easy to get without trekking all the way back to Amani Island. Wood can be gained by chopping the dead trees around Midrath with a Stone Hatchet, while Thatch is a basic material gathered from Bushes.
Once you rebuild the stable, the mount is unlocked immediately. No saddling is needed; you can call it, (on PCs the default keybind is "X") and interact to ride it.
The mount can jump and sprint and has its own stamina bar. It's much faster than your character, and it also drains less stamina while spriting than regular sprinting on foot. However, there's no mounted combat in Towers of Aghasba Early Access, nor can you climb or swim while on the mount. Taking damage while on the mount simply damages the player character the regular amount (fall damage seems to be exempt from this rule).
