War Thunder: First look at the HQ17
The War Thunder Storm Warning update added various new vehicles to the game, with the HQ17 being one of them. It is currently the topmost SPAA vehicle that China gets and is an upgrade to the Tor-M1. It looks almost identical to the Tor-M1 in appearance, as it is based on the former. The HQ17 was a much-needed addition to the Chinese ground tree as their top-tier anti-air capabilities were falling behind those of the other nations.
In this article, we will discuss the HQ17 SPAA in this premier vehicle combat MMO.
War Thunder: All we know about the HQ17
The HQ17 sits at Rank VIII, Battle Rating 11.3 in the Chinese ground tree. You can find it at the bottom of the SPAA line in the tech tree, in a folder with the Tor-M1.

The SPAA is equipped with the HQ17 missiles which can travel at a speed of 885 m/s. It has a maximum overload limit of 42G and has an eight-meter trigger radius. The Guidance is Semi-Automatic (SACLOS), meaning you have to manually guide the missile with your mouse. The missiles also have a longer range than the ones in the Tor-M1. They are effective up to 15 km.
You get eight of these missiles and they are located inside the vehicle. They launch vertically and then use thrust vectoring to point toward the direction you are aiming. Note that if you are aiming at something low and close, due to the vertical launch, the missile will need some distance to come down.

The radar set is also better, being able to track and hit two targets simultaneously. You also get a thermal imager, making it easier to visually spot targets if they are outside radar range.
Just like other SPAAs, there is no armor to speak of, but it is pretty mobile. Due to its comparatively light weight of 37 tonnes, it can travel with a maximum speed of 65 kmph both backward and forward.
