How to upgrade characters in Ash Echoes
Neocraft introduces several ways to upgrade characters in Ash Echoes. As the characters in this title don’t have levels like other gacha games, your team’s combat power depends on the leader’s Tactical Engravings obtained from Echoing Nexus. However, you can use other mechanics to strengthen the Echomancers — like upgrading character skills, ascending them, and more.
This article provides a complete guide to upgrading characters in the Neocraft's latest title.
All methods to upgrade characters in Ash Echoes
1) Ascension
All characters in Ash Echoes have four stages, ranging from S0 to S6. You can advance an Echomancer to the next stage using the Ascension mechanics. Advancing from S0 to S1 requires Common Alloys. Each character requires different materials while advancing to S2 and higher. You can farm Ascension materials from the Field Ops game mode in Ash Echoes.
Ascending an Ash Echoes Echomancer increases their basic stats: VIT (Vitality), ATK (Attack), and MST (Mastery). Additionally, when you use an Echomancer with a higher stage in Echoing Nexus, its initial stats and skill levels will be higher at the beginning of a Nexus run. You can unlock awakened Splash Arts of the 5-star and 6-star Echomancers at S4.
2) Combat skills
Another way to strengthen characters in Ash Echoes is by upgrading their skills. Each Echomancer has one Basic Attack and two skills, Regular and Seed (Ultimate). You can upgrade their skill level using different materials based on their type. All Echomancers are divided into three types based on the shape of their Ash Echoes classes symbol: Triangle, Square, and Diamond.
All Echomancer requires different materials to level up skills, except chips. The requirement of chips depends on the Echomancers’ types. The Echomancers that fall under the Triangle type require Ranged, Square requires Melee, and Diamond requires Tactics chips.

3) Seed Evolution
You can upgrade the Main skill of characters in Ash Echoes with the Seed Evolution mechanism. Upgrading the Main skill requires Resonance Echoes which can be obtained by pulling on the banners. While obtaining a duplicate of an Echomancer, it will be converted into its Resonance Echo.
You can then use a Resonance Echo to advance Echomancers’ Seed skill level by one. There are six Seed levels: 0, I, II, III, IV, and V. In addition to strengthening their Seed skills, Echomancers obtain new traits that grant various perks at levels, I and III.

4) Fitness training
Fitness training is one of the many ways to strengthen characters in Ash Echoes. You can perform fitness training for individual Echomancers by entering the S.E.E.D. Dome > fitness training. After entering, you can choose an Echomancer to train and increase its combat stats, such as VIT, ATK, MST, and more.
You can upgrade all stats, from level I to level V in multiple phases. The next phase unlocks after upgrading a stat to level V in the current phase. Training requires various in-game items, such as Muscle Trainer, Combat Boxer, and more. You can manufacture them in the R&D section of the S.E.E.D. Dome.

5) Potential Exploration
After upgrading an Echomancer’s Ascension to S4 and Officer level to 23, you will unlock the Potential Exploration mechanism. You can upgrade their Potential Exploration levels to make them more robust. Additionally, the characters in Ash Echoes receive passives that they can apply to themselves and the entire team.
You require Crystaplates and Badges of Origins to upgrade an Echomancer’s Potential Exploration. The former in-game item can be obtained by completing Leader Record milestones and the latter by playing Path to Proficiency game mode in Ash Echoes.
Note that it's not necessary to upgrade the potential of all Echomancers; rather, only choose those whom you use as a leader.
