J in Reverse 1999: Skills overview
Here is the skills overview of J in Reverse 1999:
- Hardness Testing (Basic Skill 1): He attacks one target, dealing damage and inflicting Burn stacks. J buffs all allies’ damage-dealing ability for every Burn stack he gains.
- Heat Treating (Basic Skill 2): J grants shields to all allies, whose value increases based on the Burn stacks he possesses. When enemies attack allies with shields, J ripostes and inflicts them Tempering.
- Over The Haight Street (Ultimate Skill): J first inflicts Burn stacks on enemies based on the number of stacks he possesses. Then, he attacks all enemies, dealing Reality damage. He doesn’t gain Burn stacks from this skill. However, it inflicts additional Reality damage for every extra Burn stack he possesses.
J’s status effects explanation:
- Tempering: It deals Reality damage to all enemies and inflicts the Burn stacks. He also inflicts additional damage based on the amount of HP lost.
- Burn: This effect reduces the amount of healing taken. At the round’s end, it deals Genesis damage.

J’s inheritance or passive skill is called Bodily Furnace. At Insight I, he gains an attack buff percentage equal to 50% of the Burn stacks he possesses when attacking. He also resolves his Burn stacks, dealing damage to himself but retaining the stacks.
Whenever his attacks apply the Burn stacks, he grants an equal number of Burn to self. He incurs 50% less damage when resolving his Burn stacks. His health won’t go below 15% HP by resolving Burn stacks.
At Insight II, his damage-dealing ability increases when entering the battle. At Insight III, the limit of Burn stacks he inflicts on himself raises to 35. He becomes immune to Freeze and Cold while he has the Burn stacks. If he has 50% or less HP at the round’s start, he dispels all non-Burn status effects and Neg status from himself and gains a Critical Rate buff.

J in Reverse 1999: Best teammates
J takes the role of DPS in a Reverse 1999 team. He requires teammates who can ensure his survivability at low HP. At Insight III, J gains a critical rate buff when he has 50% or less HP. So, Timekeepers can use the Spirit Afflatus Isolde, Star Afflatus 37, and Mineral Afflatus Semmelweis for the Sub DPS role.
They can use Plant Afflatus Kakania, Beast Afflatus Medicine Pocket, or Plant Afflatus Vila as healers for J in Reverse 1999.
Is J in Reverse 1999 worth pulling?
Timekeepers can pull J in Reversse 1999 if they find his kit interesting. He works excellently with Isolde of Spirit Afflatus and 37 of Star Afflatus. However, they must be careful and manage J’s HP carefully, ensuring his survivability.
He is not a must-pull, but Timekeepers with Isolde or 37 can pull J and use him in battles.
