3 NASCAR drivers who got into legal trouble, ft. Kurt Busch
Multiple NASCAR drivers have gotten themselves into legal trouble over the years. From trivial to grave, they have committed or been accused of committing offenses of various sorts.
In this article, we have amassed a list of three such NASCAR drivers who got into legal trouble for various reasons. Here they are:
#3 Tighe Scott
In January 2021, Tighe Scott and his son, Jarret Scott, allegedly committed two felony offenses each. They were accompanied by two other men from Pennsylvania who are claimed to have charged at the police during the attack on the United States Capitol.
Tighe and his son were arrested by the FBI in June 2024 for allegedly assaulting police officers who were trying to protect the Capitol from pro-Trump supporters three years ago.
Scott is a former NASCAR driver who competed in the Cup Series. He took part in 89 races in over six years, with 18 top ten finishes under his belt. His first race was the 1976 Daytona 500, and his last race was at the same venue six years later.
#2 Cody Ware
NASCAR driver Cody Ware found himself in deep trouble as he was charged with assaulting a female in April last year. According to jail records, he was arrested for assault by strangulation and assault causing serious injury in North Carolina.
Even though he was released on a $3,000 bond, NASCAR suspended his association with the sport indefinitely. However, the charges against him were dropped in December of that year and NASCAR then reinstated him.
Ware has competed in all three disciplines of NASCAR and is currently associated with Rick Ware Racing on a part-time obligation. He is the son of NASCAR team owner Rick Ware and drives the #15 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.
Ware has 106 Cup Series races under his belt in over eight years, and has claimed two top 10s. He has also taken part in 28 Xfinity Series races, and seven Craftsman Truck Series events. He last competed in NASCAR at the 2024 South Point 400 at Las Vegas.
#1 Kurt Busch
Former NASCAR driver Kurt Busch was arrested in August this year on a drink and drive charge in North Carolina. According to court records, Busch was driving at a speed of 63 miles per hour in a zone of 45 mph.
As he was pulled over by the police, they reported that the former NASCAR driver had "red glassy eyes" and alcohol was slammed on his breath. He was charged with speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
Following his arrest, the brother of NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Busch stated that he was disappointed with himself, and apologized to his family and fans. Busch retired from the sport at the end of the 2022 season.
The Las Vegas-born driver raced in all three disciplines — in the Cup Series, he entered 776 races in over 24 years, where he claimed 34 victories, 28 pole positions, and 339 top 10s.
He raced in 30 Xfinity Series races, with five wins, three pole positions, and 23 top 10s to his name. Busch's Truck Series statistics consist of 28 races over three years, with four wins, four pole positions, and 20 top 10s.
