"You want to come out here and have speed" - AJ Allmendinger on his performance at Homestead-Miami after securing Championship 4 spot
AJ Allmendinger started the playoff race on Saturday at Homestead in P6. Despite a good start, Allmendinger finished a few places behind his starting position, in P10. Following the end of the race, The Dinger, who had already qualified for the Championship 4 race, reflected on what went down at Homestead-Miami.
In a post-race interview with Daniel McFadin of Frontstretch, the #16 driver was asked how he felt about a P10 finish. Allmendinger responded:
"It was really good. I was really happy with the speed that we had. These races don't like matter technically, but you know, you still want to come out here and have speed, have an opportunity to win. I felt like at worst we were kind of a fourth-place car. Went on a different strategy there to try to steal the win if the caution came out and I was all for it. So, all in all, it was a great day."
On being asked whether he prepared for the Amex Credit Card 300, as he has secured his presence in the final 4, Allmendinger said:
"I still watch video and stuff. You don't want to just come out here and suck. So, I'm still always hard on myself. I want to be at my best."
