"He has to change the diaper" - Kevin Harvick playfully reacts to Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett becoming parents
Retired NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick took some time to poke fun at his old boss, Tony Stewart, who he drove for in the final 10 seasons of his career. Now that Stewart has become a first-time dad, there's one task Harvick believes the former will be required to do.
In the latest episode of 'Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour' podcast, the 2014 Cup Series champion offered his congratulations to Stewart and his wife, Leah Pruett, on the birth of their baby boy last Sunday. A two-time dad himself, Harvick said he's excited to see what the dynamic is like as his former boss takes on parenthood.
"I can't wait," Kevin Harvick said. "Once they get their feet on the ground, I'm going to visit. I have to see this with my own two eyes." (28:28 onwards)
The 60-time Cup Series winner went on to say that he believes Stewart and Pruett will make great parents. The California native wants to see the three-time Cup Series champion hold his newborn son, but humorously, he hopes to see the new dad be forced to make a diaper change.
"I just have to visually see him hold the baby," Harvick said. "I just want to be there long enough for it to crap its pants and he has to change the diaper." (28:45 onwards)
The 48-year-old concluded by coming up with an alternate scenario of the baby needing a diaper change that would make the situation even funnier and extended another congratulations to the new parents.
"If we can somehow convince him to go in the car and we can take the baby somewhere by ourselves and it happened in the car, it would be way better," Harvick said. "It's not failure, it's the experience. There are no real failures. You're going to have multiple failures as a parent, that's just part of the process. What a fantastic scenario, for him to be a dad is something that I'm super excited about, so congratulations to Tony and Leah." (29:02 onwards)
Kevin Harvick spent 10 seasons driving for Tony Stewart in the NASCAR Cup Series
Kevin Harvick reached many of his greatest feats in NASCAR when behind the wheel of the #4 Stewart-Haas Racing car, co-owned by Tony Stewart and Gene Haas. Harvick drove for SHR from 2014-2023.
The combination was like lightning in a bottle from the start as Harvick won five races and the championship in his first season with the organization in 2014. He followed it up with three victories and a runner-up finish in the championship in 2015.
Harvick made three more Championship 4 race appearances in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Despite winning a season-high nine races in 2020, Harvick was unable to make it to the Championship 4. He retired from NASCAR competition in 2023 after winning a championship and 37 of his 60 career wins with SHR.
