“I hope NASCAR sees this bullshit”: Joey Logano furious at rival Chevy's 'deliberately' blocking him at Phoenix practice
Joey Logano will be chasing his 3rd NASCAR Cup Series Championship at Phoenix this Sunday. The Penske driver has won both his previous titles during even years and will hope for a repeat of the same this year. However, his Cup Series practice at Phoenix did not kick off as he would have wanted.
The #22 Ford Mustang driver for Team Penske accused rivals Chevrolet of "deliberately blocking him" during the Phoenix practice. Logano blasted this action from their rivals on his team radio.
“Chevy’s are deliberately getting in front of us… absolutely ridiculous”
“I hope NASCAR sees this… this is bullshit”
Logano's comments come just days after a huge controversy in Martinsville where William Byron and Chevrolet were accused of shielding the HMS driver in his quest to reach the Final 4. Byron eventually qualified after Christopher Bell's desperate Hail-Melon-like move was penalized by NASCAR after the race.
Joey Logano ended the practice in T9. Meanwhile, Logano's Penske teammate Ryan Blaney topped the charts and was fastest in Practice ahead of Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, and William Byron. Regular season champion Tyler Reddick could only attain a miserly T21 spot.
NASCAR faces the risk of "falling apart", states Joey Logano
2-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano called for strict actions to uphold NASCAR's integrity with his latest statements. The 34-year-old shared his views on last week's race manipulation allegations against Chevrolet at Martinsville.
Neither William Byron nor Chevrolet were penalized for incidents at Martinsville. Joey Logano said when asked about maintaining the sport's integrity:
"Well, it's everything, right? I mean, you see plenty of documentaries on how sports and people have kind of done things in the wrong way, how it can destroy a sport. NASCAR is backed up against the wall to where they had to do something, right? They have to do something to control us. It's everybody, right?"
He added:
"Whatever the rule is, whether it's this 100% rule or it's putting the cars together, if the rules aren't enforced, the sport will fall apart. It's important to keep that."
Joey Logano qualified for the Final 4 after his smart win at Las Vegas. He will battle it out against his teammate Ryan Blaney, Hendrick Motorsports' William Byron, and Michael Jordan's driver Tyler Reddick.
Team Penske has won the last two consecutive titles with Logano emerging victorious in 2022 and Ryan Blaney winning his first title in 2023. Roger Penske will hope his team can complete a hat-trick of Cup Series titles come Sunday.
