"I swear to God, true story" - Kenny Wallace hilariously recalls flying in Ken Schrader's airplane, unusual contents of Dick Trickle's briefcase
Kenny Wallace recently recalled a hilarious memory about how, back in the day, simply carrying a briefcase could make someone seem like a big-time NASCAR driver, regardless of what was inside. The 61-year-old also shared stories about how he traveled with former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader in his early days.
Speaking with Dale Earnhadrt Jr. on the classics edition of "The Dale Jr. Download" podcast on Oct. 31, Wallace said:
"I would fly with Schrader. I didn't have any money. Schrader had the big airplane, and I started flying with Kenny Schrader."
Both former NASCAR drivers belong to Missouri and have been a part of the sport for almost three decades. Wallace also recounted a funny encounter with short-track racing legend Dick Trickle and the contents of his briefcase.
"This has nothing to do with but I'll never forget it," Wallace said. "Back then, if you had a briefcase, you was a big time NASCAR driver. I remember, I've carried a briefcase one time, just trying to be big time ... Monkey see monkey do, you know."
"Dick trickle one time you opened up his briefcase. I swear to God, true story. Had like candy in there, swear to God," Wallace added.
Wallace has been a part of the NASCAR series for more than 25 years. Although he never won the Cup Series, he triumphed nine times in the Xfinity Series.
"Martinsville is car wrestling,": NASCAR veterans Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader make their feelings known ahead of final playoff race
Former NASCAR drivers Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader discussed the "car wrestling" that used to take place at Martinsville Speedway and how it has changed over the years.
In a preview of a new "Dirty Mo Media" show, Wallace and 4-time Cup Series winner Schrader talked about the 0.5-mile short tracks "concrete corners" and reminisced a moment from their Martinsville race. Wallace said:
"You made me laugh hysterically. You and I were getting in the car, getting ready for Martinsville and you looked at me and you said 'Are you ready to go car wrestling?'...[through the concrete corners] the car was always shaken up off the corner."
"Martinsville is car wrestling. Now it doesn't appear that the guys... they are gently moving now, they're not wrestling as much."
NASCAR is currently underway at Martinsville for the final Round of 8 race. Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick confirmed their championship 4 spot by winning a race.
