"I took that with a grain of salt" - When Amy Earnhardt recalled Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s offer to let her design his house since she'd live in it one day
Amy Earnhardt once opened up about her husband Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s offer to let him design the house they were going to live in. Upon receiving the offer, she revealed that she took it with skepticism.
Dale Jr. and Amy got married on December 31, 2016, five years after they got into a relationship with each other. The couple tied their knot at the Richard Childress Vineyards situated in Lexington, North Carolina.
Amy was often seen trackside, supporting her husband Dale Jr. during his racing career. She is also an interior designer and got her bachelor's degree in that field from the University of Kentucky.
Back in 2018, Earnhardt sat for an interview with Graham Bensinger where she opened up on her relationship with Dale Jr. There, Bensinger asked about Dale Jr.'s proposal to design his house.
Answering this, she stated that she did not take the offer very seriously. She said, "He did, he did tell me that. I just took that with a grain of salt."
When asked if Dale Jr. was serious about his proposal, she further added:
"Who knows right? When you first meet someone, you're in kind of a twitterpated phase, I couldn't take that too seriously because professionally I needed to make sure he was gonna like this house but who knows how serious Dale was at the time." (0:49-1:09)
For the unversed, Dale Jr. met Amy back in 2009 when he hired Wakefield Beasley and Associates, an architectural firm based in Atlanta, to design his home. Amy Earnhardt (formerly Reimann) used to work for the firm and was assigned to the former NASCAR driver's house.
Amy Earnhardt explained how Dale Earnhardt Jr. proposed to her
During the same conversation with Graham Bensinger, Amy Earnhardt also revealed how Dale Earnhardt Jr. proposed to her for marriage. Here's what she said:
"We went on a trip, and he had never been to Europe before... We went to the church just to see what it looked like. We had the pastor actually open it up for us and give us a little tour. I got downstairs and was just kind of looking around in my own little world."
"I turned around, and he was on his knee. So, in the church where his family worshipped in ten generations ago, is where we got engaged." (1:20-1:53)
They have two daughters together, Isla Rose Earnhardt, and Nicole Lorraine Earnhardt.
