Joey Logano confident about chances of a third NASCAR Cup title this season

Joey Logano is optimistic about winning his third NASCAR Cup Series title this season. The Penske driver is oozing confidence following his Nashville win last weekend.

The NASCAR Cup Series moves to Chicago next for the Chicago Street Race on Sunday. The 20th race of the 2024 regular season is all set to take place on the city's downtown roadways.

As the regular reason is nearing its end, drivers without a win so far are scrambling for a playoff spot. Logano secured a place in the playoffs with his Ally 400 win at Nashville Superspeedway and is now hopeful of a championship win.

When asked in an interview if he can be a legitimate contender for the title, Logano said (as per Cup Scene on YouTube):

“Absolutely. We always think we can win the championship. There’s a lot of stepping stones and things you had to do to get there but you bring it up plenty of times."
"If you think of 2018 and I’ve said it before, I remember having the conversation with my wife just saying gosh I hope we get through the first round of these playoffs because I felt that is where we were from a speed perspective and all of a sudden it got better." (22:14-22-37)
"And we go on and win the whole thing and she reminds me all the time you just remember what you said in 18. I’m like okay honey I got you. But she’s right. You just got to stay around, right? You got to be in it to win it," Logano added. "We did that in 18, we did it in 22, hopefully, we do it again this year.” (22:38-22:49, 23:30)

Joey Logano is a two-time Cup Series champion, having won in 2018 and 2022. In 2018, he defeated Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch in the final round of the playoffs. In 2022, he got the better of Ross Chastain and Christopher Bell.

Joey Logano spoke about his "biggest fear" ahead of the postseason in a recent interview with Sirius XM Radio. The Penske driver claimed that not having the chance to compete for the championship "eats him alive."

"My biggest fear is to go into these last 10 races and not have a chance to win a championship. It just eats me alive and there’s no way to avoid that feeling because I care so much.”

Joey Logano cemented his playoff spot after he took the Checkered Flag ahead of Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick in an eventful race at Nashville. He started the race from 26th place but held his nerve to secure his first win of the season.
