Kyle Larson rues missed opportunity after P3 finish in High Limit race
As per the latest development, Kyle Larson finished the Premier Chevy Dealers Clash race at Knoxville Raceway in third place. And for this, he had nothing but regret as he failed to replicate his valiant efforts from the Eagle Raceway.
Kyle Larson arrived at Knoxville for the High Limit race fresh from his victory at $55,555 To-Win Eagle Nationals on June 12, and the NASCAR Cup Series qualification pole at Iowa Speedway. However, he fell short of victory at 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Iowa as he failed to keep up with Corey Day.
Day claimed the Knoxville High Limit race, followed by Donny Schatz in second place. On the other hand, Larson came home ahead of David Gravel in fourth. As Larson, the #57 driver rued his missed opportunity and shared his thoughts with "Always Race Day" on X. Larson said,
"Actually feel like the engine is a lot better than what we have been running. It seems really fast, we hold up really fast. I just missed my mark in qualifying so that was more on me. I mean that we raced really well. Just that I missed the first that one restart and lost much ground."
Despite Larson expressing regret over finishing in third place, he deserves the credit for his efforts. The #5 driver at the Cup Series started the High Limit race from 13th place and crossed the finish line after making 10 places during the race.
Going by the statistics, the improvement was nothing short of brilliant. However, for a driver like Kyle Larson, who has been in scintillating form this season, nothing beats the sweet taste of victory, something he would look for at Iowa Speedway on Sunday.
Kyle Larson gears up for victory at Iowa
NASCAR is in Iowa for the first-ever Cup Series race on Sunday with the Iowa Corn 350. And Kyle Larson is one of the hot favorites to win the race. Larson increased the chances further after claiming the pole position on Saturday.
Speaking about his pole, the #5 Chevrolet driver said (as per Motorsport),
“It was challenging, for sure. It wasn’t as challenging as I was expecting. I had just watched everybody (go before me) and everybody was really loose and on edge. I just tried to be under the edge a little bit, I guess. Happy to get the pole."
Kyle Larson is currently leading the 2024 Cup Series standings with 561 points, courtesy of his recent victories at Sonoma Raceway last Sunday, along with the wins at Las Vegas and Kansas City.
