“Love you babe”: When Tony Stewart announced engagement with ‘funny as hell’ Leah Pruett via Instagram
Tony Stewart married drag racer Leah Pruett in November of 2021 after popping the question to her a few months prior. He announced their engagement through social media at the time, posting their pictures.
Stewart remains to be one of the most influential people in NASCAR. A former racer, he won the Cup Series championship thrice during his career and was also the part owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, which is set to cease operations after the 2024 season ended. He has always been related to motorsport, and so is his wife.
In 2021, he got married to Leah Pruett, who is also a racing driver who took part in drag races. The two are believed to have met two years prior to their marriage. Their engagement was also announced on Instagram through simultaneous posts.
"So excited to spend the rest of my life with a truly amazing woman. She’s motivated, hard working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I’ve ever known. Love you babe," Tony Stewart wrote on his Instagram.
She also shared her engagement post at the same time, writing:
"Thought no better time to share our engagement than right now, after the Tour De Florida clutch dust settled 🥰 .... Checking out hot rods and cruising the Havasu strip with my husband to be @tsrsmoke 🤍 The undeniable level of love, happiness, and soulfulness we have together is monumental. He might run in circles, but is the straightest shooter and the salt of this earth... looking forward to a lifetime of sunrises and sunsets that the Lord has gifted us together. Love you babe!"
Why did Tony Stewart race instead of his wife Leah Pruett?
Leah Pruett most recently raced under the Tony Stewart Racing tag in Top Fuel, the drag racing event. She has been largely successful in the series, clinching the title during the 2010 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series and also the 2018 NHRA Factory Stock Showdown.
However, she had to step aside from her seat for the 2024 season as she is pregnant. Discussing the possibilities of her racing, she said:
"I'm looking forward to making this very difficult decision in November. Can I make the World Finals begin ten months pregnant? I really want to because hopefully Matt (Hagan) and Tony are on the championship lines. So, I hope I'm hobbling around, water breaking on the starting line I don't know. The opposite of that would be me staying home and being uncomfortable of us not being in the chase," Pruett said (5:54).
While Pruett did not return to racing in 2024, the same is expected for the 2025 season as well. Her husband and the team's owner Tony Stewart Has been racing in the series instead.
