NASCAR drivers including Joey Logano, Noah Gragson reveal their go-to gas station snacks

NASCAR drivers recently discussed their preferred snacks while going on a road trip. The answers from all drivers were interesting, with Noah Gragson describing his likely high expenses when stopping at a gas station.

While these drivers are loaded up with fuel and new tires within seconds during the races, that's not the case away from the tracks. Like any other person, NASCAR drivers also make gas station stops during journeys which gives them ample time to go for a little bit of shopping.

It is interesting to know that despite being athletes, some of the drivers eat their hearts out when stopping at a gas station for food or snacks. Recently, Chat Us Up asked the drivers what quick bites they like to grab.

Team Penske driver Joey Logano revealed that his snack of choice would be a pizza from a pizza chain that largely has its stores in convenience stores.

Logano said,

"I am going to definitely stop for a Hunt Brothers pizza. No doubt."

However, not all the drivers had such simple preferences. Gragson, for example, said he would spend around $300 if he stopped at a gas station during a road trip. The expenses of his snacks contained a mix of seeds, jerky, and pickles.

"I'll spend about $300 on that gas station. I'm getting candy and chips and beef jerky. Sunflower seeds are a must. I like sunflower seeds, probably a dill pickle. But I'm dropping at least $300 in there and I'm eating about $15 with those snacks."

What diet does a NASCAR driver follow?

Pizzas and pickles might not be the best choice for protein and other important nutrients that athletes require. The strength required to brake and turn the stock cars while racing is much more than one might expect. Hence, it becomes essential for a NASCAR driver to stay healthy and have a proper diet.

Prior to the race, the drivers focus on the right amount of carbohydrate and protein intake. Races can be physically exhausting and carbs act as a source of energy. However, too much of any of the nutrients can have a negative impact on the drivers.

The post-race meals are largely protein-based. This is because it helps in rebuilding the muscles. A driver's arms are in constant strain during a race along with their foot. This extreme pressure can break the muscles down and protein helps to restore and develop it.

Another important aspect is hydration. The cockpit of the car can get very hot, causing in loss of body fluids. During the races, drivers drink water using a hose system attached to their helmets. This keeps them hydrated and focused.

While NASCAR drivers may prefer all kinds of food during a road trip, they make sure to remain in perfect shape during races like other athletes.
